Chapter 8 Proper Duties and Virtues
Rebecca didn’t see Nathan and Jocelyn. She was being dragged by Greg, unable to move, and her heart was filled with sorrow.
When she was born, the fortune-teller had said she was unlucky and would bring misfortune to her family. Her biological parents abandoned her, and her adopted parents took her in for money. She had never known a moment of warmth from a family.
And now they were scheming against her like this!
She had heard that Greg’s previous wives had all died from his torment! Marrying him, not only would there be no happiness, but it would be hard to even survive!
And he had pedophilia! Emma might fall into his hands too!
No, I have to protect myself, and protect Emma!
She struggled desperately. “You ugly, fat pig, let go of me!”
Greg had long desired Rebecca, and now that she was right in front of him, he wouldn’t let go.
He roughly controlled her. “How dare you insult me? You’re already a mother, why try to act modest? You’re actually very easy, aren’t you? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have had a child at 19. But I’m not so old-fashioned. As long as you marry me and behave at home, following the proper duties and virtues, I won’t hold it against you. Now, let me take you upstairs.”
With that, he tried to pick her up and carry her upstairs.
Rebecca knew that if she went upstairs with him, it would be the end of everything.
At the moment he forcefully moved, she twisted her leg painfully, creating a purple bruise. The pain finally brought her some clarity and strength.
She lifted her leg, gathered all her strength, and kicked upward with all her might!
“Ah!” A scream like a pig being slaughtered echoed.
Greg tightly covered his crotch, his face twisting in pain.
Rebecca took the opportunity to push him away. “Greg, whether I had a child at 19 has nothing to do with you. The modern woman is to never be gentle, never be reasonable, and never show mercy! Don’t let me see you again, or when I’m strong enough, I’ll kick you into becoming a man who can’t father children!”
After cursing, she dragged her body and quickly ran off.
Greg never expected Rebecca still had the strength to kick him! His veins bulge as he angrily gritted his teeth and shouted, “You b*tch, come back here! I won’t let you off! I’ll make you beg for mercy!”
He chased after her, clutching his legs.
Rebecca, terrified of being caught, didn’t care about anything else. She stumbled out of the club and ran straight toward the street, completely unaware of the oncoming traffic.
Honk! Honk! Honk!
The blaring sound of a car horn rang out!
Rebecca turned her head just in time to see a bright red limited-edition Ferrari speeding toward her, coming way too fast!
But it was already too late to react!
Bang! Whoosh!
Her body was struck and thrown to the ground, a wave of dizziness overtook her, and she lost consciousness…
“Shit, I hit someone!” Inside the car, Caleb Holmes, smoking a cigarette and looking ruggedly handsome, cursed under his breath, quickly turning to look at the back seat. “Marcus, are you hurt? I didn’t mean to.”
This was his first time driving for Marcus. He had wanted to show off his driving skills, but now he had caused a big mess.
Marcus, only 3 years old, was dressed in a black suit, looking very cold.
He glanced up and shot Caleb a disdainful look, clearly saying, Why am I still sitting here if I’m hurt? Your driving sucks! I should’ve walked instead of getting in your car.
Caleb remained silent. Great, the image I worked so hard to build is completely ruined.
“It’s an accident, just an accident. Stay in the car, I’ll go check on her.”
With that, he opened the car door and got out.
A few onlookers had gathered on the street. The woman was lying on the ground, her posture messy.
Caleb hurried over, intending to ask about the situation, but when he saw the mask fall off and recognized the familiar face, his expression changed in shock.
Oh my goodness! Jo… Jocelyn! How is it her?
