Chapter 9 A Twist of Fate
Caleb never expected he would hit someone, and he certainly didn’t expect it to be Jocelyn. He was shocked to the core. After a full three seconds, he regained his composure and rushed over. “Jocelyn? Jocelyn, are you okay?”
What greeted him was complete silence. Clearly, she had lost consciousness and was out cold!
Caleb was filled with worry and urgency. He quickly took out his phone and dialed Nathan’s number. “Nathan, I hit Jocelyn with the car!”
“How did this happen?” The man’s voice rose at the end, naturally magnetic and pleasant.
Jocelyn had just messaged that she was heading downstairs, so it was impossible for her to be in a car accident.
Caleb glanced at Jocelyn’s pale face on the ground and explained, “I was picking up Marcus from the airport, and when I made a sharp turn, Jocelyn suddenly ran out. I didn’t have time to hit the brakes, and I ended up hitting her. I didn’t expect it to happen like this…”
Nathan, who had been hesitant, suddenly furrowed his brow sharply at the mention of the child. “What’s her condition now? Is Marcus okay?”
Marcus was Nathan’s son, and due to certain special reasons, he was cherished and doted on. Nathan always took him along, even on business trips.
Caleb knew how important Marcus was, so he quickly reassured him. “No, Marcus is fine. He’s sitting in the car playing right now. Don’t worry, Nathan. I’ll take Jocelyn to the medical room to get checked, and I’ll also give Marcus a check-up. You should come back quickly.”
Caleb was a doctor, and Nathan’s villa had a top-of-the-line medical room, much faster than going to the hospital.
Nathan curled his lips and gave a cold hum. “Okay.”
He then stood up, his dignified figure leaving the room with long, determined strides.
Not long after he left, Jocelyn, in her elegant high heels, entered the private room.
Tonight, she had purposely come to see Rebecca’s downfall. Worried that things might later appear suspicious, she had messaged Nathan to meet and create a reason and evidence for her presence. She also wanted to take advantage of the night to get closer to Nathan.
At this moment, seeing the room empty, she furrowed her brows. Did Nathan leave without waiting for me?
She turned to leave and searched for him.
But then, a large, fat hand grabbed her. “Rebecca, so you’re here!”
Greg had searched all over downstairs and hadn’t found anyone. Thinking he wouldn’t find her, he had gone upstairs to call a girl. He hadn’t expected to run into Rebecca here.
Although she had changed clothes, she was even more beautiful now.
His face was full of excitement and evil intentions as he used force to grab her. “Don’t think you can run! You won’t escape tonight!”
Jocelyn, facing the sudden appearance of the man and his embrace, was utterly confused. Isn’t this ugly man supposed to be with Rebecca? Why is he here? I’m the precious daughter of the Wilson family in Duncantow, and Nathan’s fiancée! I’m not someone this ugly, poor man should be touching!
She felt disgust rise in her chest, and raised her hand to slap Greg. “Let go of me! I’m not Rebecca! Let go!”
Greg had already been kicked earlier and now unexpectedly received a slap. His anger surged even more. “You little b*tch, you don’t know your place. I’ll make you beg for mercy!”
“Ah! It hurts!” Jocelyn’s hair was grabbed by Greg as he dragged her toward the room. Her scalp stung painfully.
Never having been treated so roughly, she was filled with fear and deep frustration. She desperately tried to struggle and escape, but no matter how hard she fought, she couldn’t overcome the man’s brute strength.
“Help! Help me, someone!” she cried out.
Bang!
Without caring for her cries, Greg forcefully threw her onto the couch…
