Hannah Stone had never imagined she would be sent to a detention center by her own son—all because of a dog. The absurdity of it all lingered in her mind as she stood outside the heavy iron gate, the cold air biting at her skin.
Fifteen days of imprisonment had felt like an eternity, and now, as she stepped into the dim light of the outside world, a black luxury car loomed across from her, its sleek frame a stark contrast to the bleakness of the detention center.
Standing in front of the car were her well–dressed husband and son, both with expressions cold as ice.
Before the police took her away, she had begged her husband, Christian Ford, to save her.
Christian, emotionless, held his first love in his arms and coldly rebuked, “You brought this upon yourself.”
At this moment, the impatience on his face was exactly the same as that day.
“Hurry up and get in the car. Let’s go home,” The man ordered coldly.
Half a month ago, she would have rushed forward without hesitation, hugged him tightly, and poured out the suffering she had endured during those fifteen days.
But now, she remained motionless, because the front passenger door of the luxury car opened, and a woman dressed in high–end designer clothing stepped out.
As her high heels touched the ground, they made a crisp click–clack sound, as if they could crush a person’s heart with ease.
The woman sighed helplessly as soon as she got out of the car, her delicate face filled with apology.
“Hannah, do you still blame me for accidentally hitting and killing your dog? But you already hit me to vent your anger, so please stop causing trouble for Chris, okay?”
Rebecca Trent finished speaking and then coughed, as if her emotions had triggered an old ailment.
A surge of killing intent rose in Hannah’s heart.
Her dog, Bobby, whom she had raised for six years, had thrown himself against her, allowing her to dodge the out–of–control car. But Bobby had been crushed under the wheels.
That car was Rebecca’s globally limited luxury vehicle. There was no way it could have lost control at low speed in the villa district. This was clearly a premeditated murder!
Shocked and grief–stricken by Bobby’s death, she had gone mad with rage and tried to fight Rebecca to the death.
Christian had arrived home just then. As soon as he stepped out of the car, regardless of the truth, he immediately shielded Rebecca behind him, refusing to let Hannah take another step closer.
Then the police arrived.
It was her own son, Chester Ford, who had called them.
Chester had stood protectively in front of Rebecca, yet his small, innocent hand had pointed at her.

At that moment, she had been unable to defend herself. Even after being Mrs. Ford for six years, she was still taken away to the police station in the end.
Rebecca had graciously expressed that she did not want to pursue the matter, but Christian insisted on teaching Hannah a lesson. So, Hannah was detained for fifteen days.
During those fifteen days, she endured an unprecedented mental torment.
Every silent night, she would think of Bobby’s innocent eyes and Christian’s cold face.
She looked up at the blue sky, forcing back the tears in her eyes.
Those fifteen days of imprisonment felt longer than fifteen years, so long that she gradually came to accept the reality that she was no different from a widow.
Christian took off his coat and draped it over Rebecca. “It’s cold outside. Why don’t you stay in the car?”
“Ms. Rebecca, let me warm you up.” Chester also held Rebecca’s hand.
Rebecca smiled weakly.
“It’s fine. I’m feeling much better. Besides, Hannah has a misunderstanding about me. If I don’t personally explain, she will continue to feel troubled.”
Christian’s expression darkened instantly.
“She did something wrong. What is there for her to feel troubled about?” Then, his icy gaze stabbed toward Hannah like a blade. “Hannah, enough! If you sincerely apologize to Rebecca, you can still be Mrs. Ford!”
Hannah looked at the man.
So, he had been eager to get rid of her all along.
Scenes from the past flashed through her mind.
Back then, she had fallen unconscious from a hiking accident, and it was Christian who had happened to pass by and saved her. Later, she learned that they were college classmates, and the two gradually developed feelings for each other.
After they got together, she used her family’s influence to push Christian into the position of president of Ford Group, and as she had wished, she married him.
Her parents had once objected to her decision, thinking it was too rash for her to step into marriage right after graduation and become a housewife.
But she had never regretted her choice.
Until his first love, Rebecca, appeared.
Hannah panicked, struggled, pleaded, and even tried to use their past bond to pressure him, but it was all in vain. Instead, it only pushed Christian further away.
Everyone around her thought she was being unreasonable.

So when she was detained this time, people said Christian had already been merciful by ensuring she didn’t have a criminal record.
But none of them knew.
That dark room was terrifyingly silent, a place where one could lose all sense of direction and time.
She feared darkness and silence the most.
She had broken down, slamming herself against the walls, clawing at her own skin, even attempting to end her life to end it all…
She bit her lower lip. She had done nothing wrong.
If there was any mistake, it was that she had failed to bring Rebecca to justice!
Hannah said, “I will not apologize to her.”
Chester immediately stepped in front of Rebecca, his small face burning with fury, like a little beast in a fit of rage. “Ms. Rebecca doesn’t even want to hold this against you, and she personally came to pick you up! Why won’t you apologize? You’re horrible!”
“Chester!” Rebecca placed a hand on his shoulder. “Don’t be so rude.”
Chester’s eyes welled up with tears in an instant, looking utterly aggrieved. Then he turned his furious gaze back to Hannah.
“I don’t want such a vicious mommy! Why can’t you be my mommy instead? I only want you to be my mommy!”
A dull pain spread through Hannah’s chest.
Chester had been born premature, frail since infancy, prone to tears, and incredibly clingy. He had to be in her arms at all times except when he was asleep.
Even right after childbirth, she had endured the pain to soothe him patiently.
Whenever Chester fell ill, she stayed by his side all night, terrified that something might go wrong.
She once thought her son was her whole life.
But after enduring countless days of mental torment in detention, she finally realized that nothing was more important than her own life.
Some people were simply born with thin familial ties. If that was the case, it was better to let go, for both
their sakes.
So, bearing the pain in her heart, she accepted the reality of losing her son.
“Christian, let’s get a divorce. I’ll give you the perfect family of three.”
Hannah spoke softly, then turned away, not sparing them another glance.
It was as if she had been freed. A faint smile curled at her lips.
Yet, her words left Christian stunned.
