A childish voice rang out, instantly making the three people opposite her widen their eyes in shock.
Before they could react, a little shadow dashed toward Hannah, one hand clutching her arm while the other stuffed a hard–earned hand warmer into her palm, which he had coaxed from a female officer.
Only now did Christian notice that Hannah was shivering from the cold, her skin pale and lips tinged with purple.
Instinctively, he raised his hand to remove his coat, but only then did he realize it was already on Rebecca’s shoulders.
His expression darkened instantly.
Hannah clutched the hand warmer tightly, feeling its warmth spread through her entire body.
Her gaze softened as she looked at the three people before her. “I’m going home with my son now. Goodbye, everyone.”
For a brief moment, she thought she saw Christian’s eyes flash with murderous intent.
On the other hand, Chester stared at the little boy beside her, his eyes turning bloodshot.
Only Rebecca looked at her in utter shock. “Hannah, how do you have another son?”
Hannah, now warm, reached out and took Ethan Stone’s hand.
This was the son of the woman who had saved her life.
On the twelfth day of her detention, she had learned that it was Christian who had secretly ordered her imprisonment in the dark cell, intending to hold her there until the fifteen days were up before transferring her to the police station, seamlessly covering his tracks.
In her despair, she had attempted suicide.
But the prison guard, Taylor Miller, heard noises coming from the long–abandoned back courtyard while on duty. Thinking it was an escape attempt, she rushed over, only to catch the person delivering food to Hannah and discover the truth.
That day, Hannah had nearly bitten through her tongue, barely surviving.
Taylor had told her that since she had already brushed past death once, she might as well see it as a rebirth and start living for herself.
The next day, a child had come to the hospital to bring her food. That was when she found out that Taylor had died in a sudden car accident, leaving the boy an orphan.
Seeing the child’s tear–streaked face, her heart softened completely, and she had the sudden urge to adopt
him.
When she carefully brought up the idea, the boy had immediately thrown himself into her arms like a baby bird returning to its nest, declaring that they would rely on each other from now on and that no one was allowed to leave suddenly.

Her nose tingled with emotion, and she nodded in agreement.
That very day, the local police station helped process the adoption, and the boy took her surname, officially becoming Ethan Stone.
She had only spent a day with Ethan, yet he had already mastered using his charm to win her a hand
warmer.
Meanwhile, her biological son, whom she had raised for five years, was eager to replace her with another
mom.
She smiled again and replied, “Yes, I only have this one son. Ms. Rebecca, you can rest easy now.”
At that moment, the taxi she had called finally arrived.
As she held Ethan’s hand and prepared to leave, she could still feel two icy gazes lingering on her.
She bent down and picked Ethan up.
The boy stiffened slightly, then buried his face in her neck with reddened eyes, murmuring softly, “Mommy, I’ll keep you warm.”
“I’m not feeling cold anymore. Let’s go home!”
Behind her, Chester’s voice rang out. “She’s finally gone. Ms. Rebecca, let’s go home.”
Rebecca hesitated. “Hannah seemed really angry. Should I apologize to her?”
Just as the taxi engine roared to life, she heard Christian’s response.
“Well, give it three days. She’ll be back, crying and begging me.”
Rebecca sighed. “That’s true. Hannah loves you too much. She would never really leave you.”
Inside the resettlement apartment in Fernwood, as soon as Ethan stepped through the door, he happily kicked off his shoes and ran around. The room was warm, and a thin layer of sweat formed on his forehead.
Clutching a few stuffed animals, he ran back and asked excitedly, “Mommy, are we going to live here from
now on?”
Hannah nodded. Looking at the familiar decorations and furnishings, she felt as if a lifetime had passed.
This was the property her parents had given her before marriage, registered under her name. She had personally designed and decorated it. It was her only refuge.
Unfortunately, after getting married, she rarely came here. She had gradually forgotten that she was once an exceptional designer, that people had been willing to pay tens of thousands just to have her work on their projects.
Her parents had been deeply disappointed and had scolded her harshly.
She had argued back, saying she had already found her path in life and didn’t need their interference, and she had never returned since.

Now, she finally understood her parents‘ love and concern. She wondered if they could still forgive her.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed aside her worries and went to check the kitchen pantry.
She hadn’t expected that the moment she opened the fridge, she would find it stocked with fresh vegetables, as if they had just been placed there that morning.
She opened the cupboards to find oatmeal, quinoa, pasta, and other essential staples.
All with production dates within the past week.
She stood frozen in place.
Ethan ran in, his eyes shining like stars at the sight of so much food. “Mommy, are you a magician?”
Hannah snapped out of her daze.
Aside from her, the only spare key to this apartment had been given to her parents.
Christian had always looked down on this place, so he would never have come here.
That meant this was her parents‘ doing.
Even though she had rarely returned, they had still made sure the apartment was fully stocked, afraid that she might come back and go hungry.
She hadn’t shed a single tear when she had been on the brink of death, yet now, she cried so hard she could barely stand.
Her parents hadn’t given up on her after all!
“Mommy, what’s wrong?” Ethan panicked, quickly grabbing tissues to wipe her tears.
“Mommy, where does it hurt? I will make you feel better.”
The little boy anxiously circled around her as she crouched on the floor, afraid she might disappear at any
moment.
She pulled him into a tight hug. “I’m not hurt. I’m just thinking… it’s time for you to meet your grandma and grandpa.”
Ethan’s teary eyes instantly lit up. “Yay!”
After making dinner, Hannah sat at the table, lost in thought. Years of caring for Chester had honed her cooking skills to perfection.
Yet, in her twenty–eight years of life, she had never once cooked a meal for her own parents.
After dinner, she held her phone, debating whether to call them, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
She wanted to stand before them looking strong and confident, without making them worry.
In the end, she stepped into the study and opened an old laptop to prepare her resume. Christian was petty. He would never let her find work easily.
