Ayla climbing out of the car will forever be ingrained into my mind. Bonan growls low and deep in my chest in appreciation for the luna that is waiting at the end of the aisle. The coming together of this ceremony was a miracle in itself. The pack pulled no stops building and sewing, decorating and cooking. The look on her face of shock when she exited will be nothing compared to the look she has at the gathering for the meal or the surprise I have for her after tonight. I started this gift when I rescued her. I kept telling myself that it was for a potential mate, a job that needed to get done and nothing to do with the beautiful, rescued omega I had next door to me, but clearly, I knew better and was too stupid to figure it out.
She is a vision in her black lace dress. Stunning. The gasps I hear when she exits the car confirms it. When she gets up to the bottom of the stage I descent and take her hand from Cyrus. He pats me on the shoulder and leans down to whisper “Your girl is fine as hell Thane, don’t fuck this up.” I grow and follow it up with a “wise words oh holy one before leading little wolf up the stage. The stage is covered in flowers and the midnight pack crescent moon insignia in the background.
“Welcome Midnight Pack to the Mating Ceremony of our much–esteemed Alpha Thane to Ayla Frost, his luna and fated mate. I understand that alpha has chosen to say some words to the pack later about the luna role and his fated mate, but first we are here to have this union before the fates, but more than a mating ceremony. This is a pack initiation and a mating ceremony. Once completed, Ayla will bear the mark of the midnight pack and her mate’s mark. “Before we start the ceremony, Ayla will have one final opportunity for alpha Thane to prove his worthiness as her mate in or out of shifted form. I doubt there is any reservations on Ayla’s part, but it must be addressed before we proceed. Ayla, do you wish to have one more opportunity for his worthiness to be tested in the forest, or proceed with the ceremony?” He asks little wolf, and I can feel the seconds ticking by like years. Do I need to test my worthiness? No. We are fated mates, that was decided long before us, but do I want to? Yes.
