Chapter 69
Thane
Four damn days. An extra day because one of our SUVS took an RP and put us down a vehicle. Most of us had to do a day in our wolf forms until we could secure another vehicle. Seven shifters rescued. Boys girls from the age of 7-16. They will be placed in the Elm Ridge Pack until they can be reunited with their families. Iot, it will be the same ol routine. Help them heal, help them live. We were able to recover laptops and hard drives. A full sweep of them will be performed and hopefully we have more answers. The need for answers has me wondering what little wolf is doing. I have been back an hour, showered and still exhausted, I head to the office to do a quick debrief with the team we left here, and a follow up on the Kian and little wolf situation. There wasn’t a night I didn’t dream of her. Her milk skin, so soft under my touch. Her snow–white hair wrapped tightly around my hand. Tugging little wolf back while I pound into her from behind. Claiming. Owning. She moans and calls out my name repeatedly. I wish I knew what that would sound like. I hope to the fates Kian doesn’t. Selfish Yes.
“Damon, any news Lneed to know about with the Kian detail?” “Yes alpha. He paid her a visit every evening for 20 minutes before leaving and heading to his bar each night. Each night he drank until the late hours. He played a lot of cards, small gambling ring involvement. Nothing big. Ayla was not with him those nights, but he took her there tonight.” HE WHAT? HE TOOK HIS TORTURED AND ABUSED MATE TO A BAR FULL OF SHIFTERS AND BOOZE? WHAT THE HELL IS HE THINKING!” I yell out with a growl, while throwing a stack of files off of my desk. Ronan is ready to rip his throat out and bathe in his blood. “Yes alpha. Poor judgement on his part. She appeared to be doing well sitting at the bar. She looked very nervous. She drank one beer, refused a martini and then she was moved to the back of the bar. That is where the bigger issue comes up.” “What issue Damon?” I am seething at this point. “Well, he had her talk to a few alphas. You know them. The Triad Group.” “Oh yes, them. The wannabe alphas that earned all the money questionably. The allies of my father’s beta.” “Yes, one of them put his hand around his waist and pulled her down onto his lap. Kian came over and forcibly removed her from the men and was overheard yelling at her in the parking lot while dragging her into the car.” I see red. I immediately start shifting. Cyrus is quick to grab a hold of me to attempt to stop the shift. I will kill him. I know it. I don’t care who she is to me. You don’t put hands on a woman. You don’t put hands on little wolf. I will rip their throats open and listen to them choke to death on their own blood while I laugh the entire time.” “Thane, get Ronan under control. You can’t just go into town and kill them. Just stop. GET HIM UNDER CONTROL!”
I get the reins from Ronan, just barely able to get him pushed back enough, to get him talked down. “Where is she now? Why didn’t anyone of you intervene?” “We did. Theo and I asked if everything was okay. He changed his demeanor pretty quick when he saw us. Theo is outside of her rooms now. Kian said a brief goodbye. Said he would talk with her late. He did mutter some sort of apology.” Apology? I don’t care if he was possessed by a body snatcher or had a zombie parasite take over his brain. There is no excuse for his actions towards little wolf. “I am going upstairs. To talk.” I get the last part out quickly to avoid the judgment of Cyrus and his eyebrow cocked up on his forehead like I can’t be trusted. I want to find out what happened.” I leave the office and head to the
elevator.
I knock on Ayla’s door several times and she doesn’t answer. I push away my rising fear and pull my phone out, sending her a quick message. I can hear the notification of the phone. The door slowly creaks open and those mesmerizing teal eyes are staring up at me with relief in them. I know little wolf; I feel the same way. “Sorry I was gone so long. We ran into some trouble, but everyone made it back. Rescued seven. I just wanted to check on you and make sure you were okay.” She nods her head, and her messy bun starts flopping around and I can’t help but smile. I missed her. I missed all of her cute buns and long braids. I miss the feel of her hair through my fingers. Damn it.
I step into her rooms and notice that her lavender scent has a faint burnt smell to it. Telling me she was recently afraid. “I heard that Kian took you to his bar in town. I personally, am not a fan of it but some people like that ambiance. She frowns at me. I know there is more, and I decide to keep pressing. Did something happen at Kian’s bar that put you in danger Ayla? I have a report of what happened, but I would like to know the truth from you. Did Kian endanger you tonight?” She is staring at me long and hard. I would think if you were going to give an honest answer, you would grab the paper and start writing, but she isn’t. She isn’t giving me anything at all. Protecting him maybe? But why? She barely knows him. I don’t know how much time goes by before she picks up her notepad and writes me her version. “You were introduced to his friends and one of them offered you a seat and you didn’t take it, so they all got mad? Why would any of them be mad you didn’t take a seat at the table?” She isn’t telling me everything and it is getting irritating. “Lets just stick with yes no questions. Did someone hurt you tonight?” I ask and she nods her head “no.” Interesting. “Did you get into an argument with Kian tonight?” She nods her head “yes.” “Was he angry with you?” She nods her head “yes.” I will kill him. She nods her head “no.” I must have said that last part out loud. In fact, she looks pretty worried.
“Sorry little wolf. There was no reason for him to get mad with you. You didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t think you are telling me everything though, but I will find out. Did Kian apologize for his behavior towards you in front of his friends?” She nods her head “yes. “Do you accept his apology?” She hesitates to answer, but then slowly starts nodding her head “yes.” Great. Wonderful, Fan-

Freaking–Tastic. “Don’t accept his apology if he doesn’t deserve it litle wolf. If he isn’t here, he doesn’t know how to grovel. Any man should know how to grovel before their mate. His mate should be the only reason you ever see him on his knees. Whether he is groveling or eating. Or eating while groveling. All men should be good at it. Our mates deserve it.” I didn’t mean to completely take the conversation over to my curent fantasies rolling through my heal as I stare at little wolf, but I couldn’t help myself. My sentences come out huskier than I intend them to.
