Chapter 1 Husband and His Mistress Admitted to the Hospital
It was late at night in the hospital.
Xylia Watson had just taken off her white coat when a flushed young nurse rushed into the office.
“Dr. Watson, bad news! Two emergency patients just arrived. You need to take a look!”
“Two patients? You expect me to handle both at once?”
Xylia frowned.
The nurse looked embarrassed, but there was a glint of gossip in her eyes.
“Oh, well, they’re a married couple. Apparently, they were using some kind of new lubricant in bed and got … stuck together.
“They’ve been separated now, but it seems like there’s something wrong with the lubricant. You need to check their condition … There might be side effects.”
“Youngsters these days really know how to have fun,” Xylia muttered, accepting the medical files from the nurse. She glanced at the names and chuckled. So many people shared the same name.
But as she approached the hospital room and heard a familiar voice inside, her body went rigid.
“Jayden, that’s great.”
The woman’s voice was soft and sweet, dripping with honey. Xylia’s expression stiffened—she recognized it instantly. It was Ruby Bailey, Jayden Castro’s assistant.
Inside the room, her husband, Jayden, was flirting with his assistant. “I told you not to mess around with stuff from the research lab. You went and made your own lubricant, and now look what happened to me.”
“Hehe.” Ruby giggled, playfully sticking out her tongue. “But you liked it, didn’t you? It was fun, wasn’t it?”
Xylia felt a chill run down her spine as she listened to their intimate exchange.
Five years ago, when she and Jayden had just gotten married, they were deeply in love. But then, he received an urgent assignment from his research institute and left the country in a hurry.
Not long after, she found out she was pregnant. Due to the classified nature of his work, she could only wait for his return.
She had spent years taking care of their child and his parents, picturing countless heartfelt reunions. But she never imagined their reunion would be like this.
At that moment, she saw a small figure running toward the room, surrounded by bodyguards.
Xylia’s expression softened slightly.
Thankfully, she still had her son. He must be here to take her home.
She was about to take off her mask and embrace him.
But the little figure ran right past her, pushing open the hospital room door instead.
“Pretty mom!”
Ruby chuckled helplessly. “You’re calling me that a little too soon.”
Jayden said indifferently, “Kids are the most honest. Let him call you whatever he wants.”
Yrian Castro grinned. “Exactly! That ugly old hag is always bossing me around, forcing me to study—she doesn’t deserve to be my mom!
“Ruby is gentle, beautiful, and always gives me little gifts. She should be my mom.”
At that moment, Xylia’s heart died.
She took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
The first thing she saw was the man and woman lying intimately on the same hospital bed, looking every bit like a married couple. Then, her son curled up in Ruby’s arms at the bedside.
No matter how she looked at it, they seemed like a real family.
“Xylia?”
Jayden was the first to notice her. He paused briefly, and then a cold disdain tainted his refined features.
“You must’ve overheard my call with my mother. How disgusting.”
Xylia took a deep breath, suppressing the pain surging in her chest. Her voice was cold. “I wasn’t overhearing. I’m your attending physician.”
A flicker of contempt flashed in Jayden’s eyes.
“You? A doctor? Your skills aren’t even as good as Ruby’s. Didn’t my parents arrange this job for you?”
Ruby giggled shyly. “Jayden, Xylia is probably just too bored and wants to play doctor. Don’t expose her like that.”
Xylia remained expressionless. “If you’re not satisfied, you can request another doctor.”
“Do it,” Jayden said without hesitation.
Xylia lowered her gaze and said coolly, “Then make the request yourselves. Do it quickly. Otherwise, your down there might not get the chance.”
Jayden’s face darkened. “Are you cursing me?!”
Ruby smirked. “Xylia, I know Jayden’s condition better than anyone. You’re just being bitter because you can’t have him.”
Xylia gave a careless shrug. “Useless men aren’t worth picking up—even beggars wouldn’t want them. If you like it, go ahead.”
Ruby choked, and Jayden’s expression darkened further as he gritted his teeth. “Xylia, who are you insulting?”
“Whoever responds to me is who I’m insulting—a useless man.”
Xylia shot him a cold glance and walked away without looking back.
Jayden was furious. He tried to get out of bed to chase after her, but as soon as he moved, he felt an indescribable pain in a certain area. He could only curse in place. “I don’t know who she learned this from. This is so crude and vulgar. How did I ever find someone like her attractive?”
“Dad, Mom was too much. How could she insult you like that?” Yrian chimed in.
Ruby sighed. “Xylia has been out in public too much lately. She’s probably picked up that kind of vulgar talk from those men.”
Jayden endured the pain, knowing this wasn’t the time to dwell on it. Fortunately, the research institute had a partnership with this hospital. He immediately called the director to demand a new doctor.
“Mr. Castro, I’ve reviewed your case. The most authoritative expert in the country right now is Dr. Watson. I strongly recommend—”
Before he could finish, Jayden interrupted.
“Did she tell you to say that?”
“Huh?” The director was confused. “Dr. Watson didn’t say anything.”
“Replace her.” Jayden refused to believe it, his disgust for that woman growing even stronger.
It was bad enough that she had leveraged their family’s influence to land a hospital position, but now she was even ordering the director around? Absolutely shameless.
On the other end of the call, the director didn’t understand but still respectfully assigned a different doctor.
What a pity. Jayden couldn’t have received a Dr. Watson appointment without his serious condition, the research institute, and the Castros.
Xylia changed back into her regular clothes. Just as she stepped out of the hospital, her phone rang—it was her mother-in-law.
“Xylia, who gave you permission to go make a scene at Jayden’s place? Get back home right now and stop embarrassing yourself!”
A sharp, angry, middle-aged voice roared from the other end of the line.
Xylia sneered. “The one embarrassing himself is Jayden.”
Her mother-in-law retorted self-righteously, “In ancient times, men had multiple wives and concubines. My son is outstanding, so what’s wrong with him being a little flirtatious? Maybe you should blame yourself for failing to keep a man’s heart!”
Her father-in-law’s voice followed, slightly more appealing, “Xylia, what Jayden did was wrong, but you’re still part of the Castros. Blowing things up like this doesn’t do anyone any good. Your family only has you left—you’ll still need to rely on us in the future … ”
“No need. I want a divorce.”
