Chapter 7 Slapping the Scumbag and the Bitch
Xylia let out a cold laugh.
“Do you think you have a say in this?”
She turned to the staff and added, “Please wrap it up for me.”
“Of course, Ms. Watson. That will be 1.05 million.”
Xylia took out the card Jayden had given her not long ago. Sebastian lost it.
“Xylia, how dare you buy something this expensive?! I gave you a billion, and you’re spending it on this?!”
Ruby exaggeratedly covered her mouth. “I thought it was at most 100,000, but is it actually that expensive? If I had known, I wouldn’t have wanted it at all.
“Xylia, this is too much. If you spent this money on Yrian instead, wouldn’t that be better? And to think you’re his biological mother.”
“Xylia, give me back the card!”
Jayden lunged forward to snatch it.
Xylia had been a little worried, but at that moment, bodyguards Shadow-1 and Shadow-2, who had been hidden in the crowd, appeared out of nowhere and immediately subdued Jayden.
“Who are you? Let go of my husband!” Ruby, realizing the situation had turned against them, rushed over to stop them. But when she met Shadow-1 and Shadow-2’s sharp gazes, she shrank back in fear.
“Mrs. Jackman, how would you like to handle this?” Shadow-1 asked respectfully.
“Call the police.”
Xylia’s red lips parted as she coldly uttered three words.
Without hesitation, Shadow-2 took out his phone to make the call.
Being restrained, Jayden looked utterly incredulous.
“Xylia, you’re actually calling the police on me?!”
“Wait.”
Xylia raised her hand, stopping Shadow-2.
Jayden’s expression shifted to one of smug expectation. “Hurry and let me go, Xylia. You’re making too much of a—”
Xylia raised her hand and delivered a sharp, resounding slap.
Slap!
Xylia’s hand trembled from the force of the strike. Jayden’s face swelled instantly on one side as he stared at her in disbelief. “Xylia, how dare you hit me?!”
Ruby, full of distress, rushed over and demanded, “Xylia, how could you hit Jayden?”
Slap!
Ruby’s face swelled just as high on one side.
“One slap on each side, and now it’s symmetrical.” Xylia was quite satisfied with her handiwork.
“You dare hit me?!” Ruby was seething with rage.
Jayden was still restrained by the bodyguards, but Ruby was free. She immediately raised her hand to strike back.
Xylia lifted her face willingly. “Go ahead. Just so you know, Jayden just attempted robbery, and the money in this card is enough to get him sentenced to at least three years. Originally, I was going to let it go after two slaps to vent my anger.
“But if you hit me back, I’ll press charges all the way and make sure everyone knows what kind of trash ‘Ruby Bailey, the Researcher’ really is.”
Ruby wanted nothing more than to slap her, but with things framed like this, wouldn’t that mean she didn’t care about Jayden’s fate at all?
She had no choice but to stop herself, glaring at Xylia with resentment.
“If you have a problem, take it out on me. Don’t hit Jayden!”
“Ruby, you really are the best.”
Jayden looked at her with gratitude, making Xylia seem like the villain in comparison.
But Xylia’s heart had long since gone cold. Seeing this display didn’t stir her in the slightest. Instead, her lips curved into a faint smirk.
“Looks like you’re working pretty hard for the Castros’ fortune.”
“What nonsense! I married into the Castros for Jayden, not money!”
Ruby glared at her, but the flicker in her eyes betrayed her true thoughts.
Jayden noticed that flicker, and a trace of doubt crept into his gaze as he looked at Ruby.
“Keep at it. Maybe one day, you’ll have a billion yourself and can buy whatever you want.”
Xylia handed the card to the staff and swiped it without hesitation. The bodyguards released Jayden—who was staring in utter disbelief—and followed Xylia as she left.
“She actually dared to buy such expensive clothes! Isn’t she going to spend a fortune in the next few days? Didn’t you say you’d take care of her? Why hasn’t she been dealt with yet?”
Jayden felt like his heart was bleeding.
That one billion was Castro Group’s liquid funds! The more that woman spent, the less money would return to them.
At the mention of this, Ruby’s expression shifted. She didn’t dare bring up what had happened last night.
“Jayden, she specifically hired two bodyguards. It’s not easy to make a move on her.”
“And what about my one billion?! If you hadn’t guaranteed everything would be fine, I never would have agreed in the first place!”
Ruby also looked troubled. If she hadn’t been so desperate to marry into the Castros, she never would have made such a bold promise.
She had assumed Xylia would be easy to manipulate—just a weak, pliable pushover. Who would’ve thought she’d be such a tough opponent?
Suddenly, a glint flashed in her eyes, and she leaned in close to whisper in Jayden’s ear.
“We can do this instead … ”
On the other side, Shadow-1 spoke in a low voice, “Mrs. Jackman, you could have called the police just now. If things escalated, Jayden would have had to go to prison.”
Shadow-2 nodded in agreement. “You’re Mrs. Jackman now. Simply slapping them was too lenient.”
Xylia understood what they meant—they wanted her to use Sebastian’s influence. But she didn’t want to do that.
Sebastian had already helped her so much; she couldn’t owe him any more.
Having run into those two, Xylia lost interest in shopping. After picking up a few necessities, she left the mall. Once she had finished packing at home, she followed Shadow-1 and Shadow-2 to Sebastian’s residence.
However, when she arrived and saw the enormous, lavish estate in the heart of the city—golden and resplendent—she was stunned.
The Jackmans hadn’t just risen to prominence in recent years. A few years ago, they relocated to Brighton, but the Watsons had already experienced a downfall. Xylia had never been here before, nor had she ever witnessed such luxury.
“This must be Seb’s wife. She’s beautiful.”
A middle-aged woman, elegantly dressed in custom designer wear, walked toward her with a gentle smile. Time had etched a few fine lines at the corners of her eyes, but it was clear that she had been breathtaking in her youth.
Her well-maintained hands lightly rested on Xylia’s rough ones, making Xylia feel slightly uneasy. She glanced at Shadow-1, who introduced the woman, “This is Mrs. Eleanor Jackman, Mr. Jackman’s mother.”
Wait—was she meeting the family already?
And Sebastian wasn’t even here?!
“Hello, Mrs. Eleanor.” Xylia greeted stiffly.
Eleanor smiled warmly. “You should change the way you address me.”
Xylia’s face turned bright red. After a long pause, she finally managed to say, “E-Eleanor … ”
Eleanor’s smile deepened as she took Xylia’s hand and led her inside.
“Come in, dear. Dinner is ready.”
“O-okay.”
Xylia stammered, still trying to process everything. Before coming here, she had assumed Sebastian would at most arrange for her to stay in one of his properties elsewhere. A man as wealthy as him couldn’t possibly own just one residence.
Yet, without even informing her, he had sent her straight to this place.
The dining table was filled with a variety of exquisite dishes, each plated to perfection. Eleanor, ever gentle and warm, kept placing food into Xylia’s plate, speaking softly, “Seb has a bit of a temper. I hope you’ll be patient with him. If he ever makes you feel wronged, just come to me.”
“Sebastian is very good,” Xylia responded in a small voice. He had helped her so much.
Eleanor chuckled. “You just got married, and you’re already speaking up for him?”
” … ”
Xylia lowered her head, feeling that the more she said, the more mistakes she might make.
Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen. It was an unknown number. She could already guess that it was someone from the Castros. She was about to decline the call when Eleanor said, “If it’s something urgent, go ahead and answer.”
The moment the call connected, a frail, childlike voice came through.
“Mom, I have a fever. Can you come take care of me?”
