Chapter 11
Still dizzy from Travis’s bruising grip, Nicole felt rage surge through her chest.
“How dare you accuse me? Should I list every tiny detail of your affair with Lucy during our three years of marriage? We’re divorced now I want to leave the past behind. Who I spend time with is my business. You have no right to interfere!”
–
“So you admit you’ve been sleeping with Alexander!”
“There’s nothing between us!”
“Bullshit! You’re practically undressing him with your eyes- do you think I’m blind?”
Travis’s eyes were bloodshot, his suit disheveled as he jabbed a finger toward Alexander.
Nicole stared at Travis’s uncharacteristic loss of control, her perfectly groomed brows furrowed in frustration.
“If you have issues with me, deal with me directly. Leave Mt. Hayes out of this!”
This only enraged Travis further. He shot Alexander a venomous glare and roared, “Nicole, you’re defending another man! We just got divorced, and you’re already throwing yourself at him!”
Nicole couldn’t understand why Travis was acting so out of character- this emotional outburst was nothing like his usual indifferent and cold attitude.
But they were divorced now, and she had no interest in creating a scene outside the office building.
Breaking free from his grip, she walked to Alexander’s side. “I’m sorry about involving you in this drama.”
Alexander shook his head, adjusting his glasses with elegant fingers. “Don’t worry about it. Let’s go – I’ve reserved a private room at Le Bernardin to celebrate.”
“Yes, let’s go.” Nicole wanted to leave immediately.
She knew Travis’s personality too well by now.
He was pathologically stubborn – just like how he’d never believed her explanations about Lucy’s accident, remaining convinced she was responsible.
Now that he believed she’d been unfaithful with Alexander during their marriage, he would definitely seek
revenge.
As the saying goes: If you can’t win the fight, avoid it.
Nicole quickly got into Alexander’s car. As Travis moved to follow, Alexander shoved him back.
“Back off, Travis,” Alexander said arrogantly. “You have no claim on Nicole anymore. If you’re smart, you’ll stay away!”
Travis glared at Alexander, then shouted at Nicole through the car window, “Get out of his car! Did you hear me? Get out!”
Nicole turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
She tried to keep her face expressionless, but her hands trembled at her sides.
For all these years, Travis had always commanded her like this, acting as if it was his natural right.
Even after the divorce, that habit hadn’t changed.
Chapter 11
Seeing Travis still pressing forward, Alexander’s eyes flashed dangerously behind his glasses.
He threw a perfect left hook, catching Travis on the chin.
Focused entirely on Nicole, Travis never saw it coming. The punch landed solidly, sending him staggering
backward.
Alexander didn’t hold back, following up with a long leg sweeping into Travis’s stomach.
Travis lost his balance and crashed to the ground with a heavy thud.
Nicole watched the scene from the car, her heart as still as a frozen lake.
Once upon a time, she would have rushed for the first aid kit if Travis so much as scratched his hand.
Now, she watched unmoved as he lay there, pain twisting his handsome features.
