Chapter 29
The bottle flew through the air, about to strike Nicole. Helen mustered all her strength to push Nicole away.
“Bang!”
The bottle exploded on
Helen felt no pain on her body.
But her heart ached as if a piece had been torn out.
Because Nicole had shielded her with her own body.
The bottle crashed directly into Nicole’s arm, shattering on impact.
Helen felt Nicole’s body tremble, and her own heart nearly broke.
She tried to turn Nicole’s body with her good right hand but couldn’t move her.
Tears streaming, she begged, “Nicole, let mo… let me see how badly you’re hurt. Let me see!”
Feeling unworthy of being a mother, she struggled to even call herself “mom.”
Nicole straightened up, covering her bleeding shoulder, and smiled, “I’m fine. Just a surface wound. I’ll just bandage it.”
Seeing Nicole trying to comfort her, Helen’s heart sank further, and her tears wouldn’t stop.
She looked at Richard with desperate rage, screaming, “She’s your own daughter! How could you do this? How could you?”
Richard snorted, showing no remorse.
“Is she my daughter? If she were, she should obediently serve me, stay in the Graham family, and regularly send me money! Instead of arguing with me and divorcing Travis Be smart and call him to remarry right now! Otherwise, we might as well all die together, haha!”
Seeing Richard’s insane laughter, Nicole finally believed Helen’s words, “Richard has gone completely mad.”
“Knock, knock, knock!”
“Open up!”
Violent knocking came from outside the door.
Richard quickly blocked the door with his body.
“Open the door! We’re from the police. Please cooperate!”
The knocking intensified.
Hearing the police, Richard instinctively looked at Nicole and asked menacingly, “Did you call the cops?”
Nicole didn’t answer. Instead, she grabbed a nearby fruit knife for self–defense.
“Try to touch us, and you’ll regret it.”
Some people only understand force. Nicole believed Richard was one of those people who could only be controlled through strength.
Richard scoffed, “Overconfident! Just like your mother! I’ll put you in your place today!”
“Boom!”
With a thunderous sound, the hospital room door was kicked open!
Two or three police officers, fully armed, rushed in and immediately restrained Richard.
Richard continued struggling, his face turning red, but the police quickly locked his limbs.
“Stay still!”
Immobilized, Richard finally began to calm down.
He stared intensely at Helen, a sinister, malevolent smile spreading across his face.
Helen shivered, terrified by Richard’s expression.
The police and Nicole ultimately agreed that Richard would be taken to the police station on charges of intentional assault.
Hearing this, Richard instantly changed his demeanor, smiling at the officers, “Officers, I’m just educating my daughter. You can’t go bad without discipline! It’s for her own good. I might have been a bit heavy–handed, but surely this isn’t intentional assault?”
REE
The police officer frowned seriously, “Educating children means talking properly. Beating your daughter to the point of injury is a criminal offense that requires jail time!!
At the mention of jail, Richard’s confident swagger vanished. Panic filled his eyes, and he transformed into a weeping, apologetic figure.
“Officers, I’m uneducated. In my hometown, this is how we teach children. My daughter divorced a good, hardworking man, and I got upset and drank too much. I made a mistake! I swear I didn’t intentionally hurt my daughter. If I’m lying, may I die a terrible death!”
