Chapter 27 You Need to Trust Me
Clara’s soft gasp escaped her lips, unintentionally alluring.
“What a playful puss, you’re good at tempting people.” Archer murmured, his voice so seductive it seemed to caress her ears.
Clara had always been calm and composed, but under his teasing, her defenses crumbled. Her body heated, and she found herself wrapping her arms around his neck, responding to his kiss.
But then she noticed the lipstick stain on his collar. It was as though a bucket of cold water had been poured over her. Clara’s entire body froze, and she abruptly pushed him away.
“Clara” Archer asked, confused.
Clara’s tone was icy. “I’m not in the right condition right now.”
Archer restrained his desire with a quiet chuckle. “Apologies. I wasn’t being considerate.”
Clara pointed at his collar. “Archer, what’s this? Are you seeing another woman behind my back?”
Archer glanced down and noticed the lipstick stain. His expression darkened as he realized Mira’s petty trick.
Clara, however, assumed her accusation had hit the mark, and Archer’s silence only confirmed her suspicion. Her heart sank further as her glare sharpened. Typical scumbag.
Archer calmly made a call, instructing someone to bring him a clean set of clothes. Then, turning to Clara, he smirked. “Already acting like my wife, questioning me? Don’t worry, though. I value marital fidelity. As long as I’m married, I’ll never cheat. That’s my line.”
Clara remained skeptical. “Were you in the shower at eight o’clock?”
Archer paused to think. “No. I was on my way to the car when I realized I’d left my phone in the office. I turned back to get it.”
“Did someone answer my call?” Archer asked, piecing the situation together.
Clara snorted. “You’re lying. People like you always have women on the side.”
Archer raised an eyebrow. “So you don’t trust me?”
“Of course not! We’re not even close!” Clara snapped, emphasizing each word.
Her anger flared. “If you’re involved with another woman, there’s no point in building any relationship with me. Just stay out of my life!”
Her puffed cheeks and fiery expression made her look like a grumpy little dumpling, and Archer found her reaction amusing.

Then he asked Clara, “If I had cheated, what would you do about the children?”
Clara hesitated. “I’d obviously… terminate the pregnancy?

But she couldn’t finish the sentence. The thought of the children–innocent and blameless— softened her resolve.
“I’d have the children,” she finally said, her voice firm. “And I’d take them far away from you. I’d never let you, a rotten influence, ruin their lives.”
Archer chuckled. “Don’t jump to conclusions. Besides, Clara, even if you fled to the ends of the earth. I’d find you and bring you back.”
Moments later, Archer received a text. It was the security footage. He opened it and handed his phone to Clara.
“Here’s the proof. See for yourself.”
Clara grabbed the phone and began watching the footage.
Ten minutes later, the atmosphere in the car was awkward.
“You’ve seen it. Am I still the scumbag you accused me of?” Archer asked with a sly grin.
Clara laughed sheepishly. “I misunderstood you.”
She hadn’t expected him to have such strong self–control. Even with a woman throwing herself at him, he had firmly rejected her.
“Don’t you think you owe me an apology?” Archer teased.
“I’m sorry…” Clara muttered..
“Too insincere,” Archer said, feigning disappointment.
“What do you want, then?”
Without answering, Archer leaned in and kissed her deeply.
When they finally pulled apart, both were breathing heavily, and Clara’s face was flushed. Archer traced her cheek with his thumb, his voice low and gentle. “Mrs. Dane, from now on, trust me.
