Chapter 4 Another Encounter
His hand had been bitten, and blood seeped out, but Archer didn’t even flinch. Clara suddenly became emotional, crying out, “Let go of me! Someone help me…” Archer noticed something was wrong and shook her shoulders gently. But before he could say more, Clara fainted. “Hey! What’s wrong with you now? What kind of act are you pulling this time?” A nurse approached and said, “Are you the patient’s family? She might have fainted from blood phobia. She needs to stay in the hospital for observation. Please handle the admission paperwork.” Archer cursed under his breath. He had billion-dollar deals to negotiate daily. Why am I meddling in this mess? After completing the hospital admission, Archer returned to see her lying on the bed. Rubbing his tired temples, he let out a frustrated sigh. Suddenly, his phone rang. It was his assistant, Taylor. “Hello?” “Mr. Dane, bad news. Photos of you pulling a woman on the street have gone viral. We can’t suppress it anymore. Even the Empress of Falvoria is aware, and she’s very concerned about the reputation of our business partners…” Archer’s voice turned cold. “Find a way to control public opinion. We can’t afford to jeopardize the royal order with Falvoria.” With a grim expression, Archer opened Twitter to check the trending topics. “Dane Corp’s CEO Spotted Flirting with a Mystery Woman on the Street” “Royal Falvoria Deal at Risk Due to Scandal” “Damn it!” Archer cursed, his eyes turning icy as they landed on Clara. His tone was sharp. “So, this was your plan all along! You really are something else.” All the sympathy and warmth he’d felt for her vanished instantly. His face darkened as he stormed out of the room. Not long after Archer left, Clara slowly regained consciousness. “Clara, here’s your test report. Don’t worry, you’re fine. Thank goodness!” Clara felt like she’d narrowly escaped disaster. Just as relief washed over her, her phone rang. “Boss, Dane Corp just contacted us. They’re offering a billion-dollar contract to hire you as the Creative Director. Will you take it?” “Sure. Schedule a meeting to discuss.” After ending the call, Clara got up to leave. But just as she stepped out of the hospital, she saw an old man clutching his chest, his face pale and strained. “Miss… please help me…” Before he could say more, the old man collapsed. “Grandpa!” Clara cried out and rushed to him, hoisting him onto her back. “Doctor! Someone has collapsed here!” The medical staff quickly moved him to the emergency room. Clara wanted to leave, but the old man grabbed her hand tightly, refusing to let go. Left with no choice, she stayed by his side. The doctor turned to her and said, “Are you his family? He had a heart attack, but thankfully we treated him in time. Please stay here to look after him.” “Alright,” Clara replied. Her thoughts wandered. I thought I’d found a family, but it was all a dream. Someday, I’ll grow old too. Will anyone care for me then? She felt a pang of sadness at the thought. Suddenly, the old man’s phone rang. The screen displayed “Grandson.” Guessing it was his family, Clara answered the call. “Hello?” A familiar voice came through. “Who are you? Why are you answering my grandfather’s phone?” “I’m at the central hospital’s emergency room. Your grandfather collapsed from a heart attack. Please come quickly.” “I’ll be there immediately.” Ten minutes later, the emergency room door opened, and a man rushed in. “Grandpa! Are you okay?” Clara turned toward the voice, and both of them froze. “You?”
