Chapter 6 The Old Fox Is Cunning

“Grandpa, I’ll compensate her for her kindness,” Archer said coldly, casting a sharp glance at Clara. Cassian replied, “Compensation is fine, but sincerity matters too. Young lady, leave your contact information. Tomorrow, let me treat you to a meal.” Clara wanted to avoid any further involvement with Archer, but she couldn’t refuse the old man’s kindness. “Thank you for the invitation. Here’s my number, Grandpa. I have some errands to run, so I’ll be leaving now.” “Alright, see you tomorrow,” Cassian said with a warm smile. With that, Clara got up and left. “Grandpa, rest here. I’ll step out for a moment,” Archer said. As he was about to chase after Clara, Cassian seemed to sense his intentions and stopped him. “Hold it right there. Are you going to scare her again?” “Grandpa?” Archer frowned, confused. Cassian huffed, “I heard everything you two said earlier. How dare you bully a young woman, you brat!” Archer sighed in frustration. “Grandpa, she’s not as simple as she seems. Until I figure out why she’s approaching us, you should keep your distance too.” Cassian waved him off. “I don’t care what her motives are. You wronged her, and that’s your fault. You’ve been with Mira for three years with no progress. If that girl ends up pregnant, you’ll marry her and give me a great-grandchild soon.” “Grandpa!” Archer groaned. “I can’t marry someone I don’t love.” Cassian’s tone became commanding. “As long as you call me Grandpa, you’ll follow my decisions. Leave this matter to me.” Archer’s face darkened. It was true we hadn’t taken precautions last night, but she can’t isn’t going to carry my child! “Grandpa, you need rest. Don’t overexert yourself,” he said, leaving the room after settling Cassian. Once outside, Archer called his assistant and instructed him to track Clara down and make her take contraceptives. As Clara stepped out of the hospital, a van suddenly screeched to a halt in front of her. Two men jumped out and dragged her inside. “Hey! What are you doing? Kidnapping me?” she shouted. “Ms. Mae, calm down. This is from the boss. He asked us to deliver these pills to you. Please cooperate,” said a suited man, pulling out a box of contraceptives. Clara raised an eyebrow. “Your boss is Archer, isn’t he?” “Yes.” “Well, then, I won’t hold back,” she said with a smirk, swallowing the pills right in front of them. Satisfied with her compliance, Taylor let her go. With nowhere to go, Clara booked a hotel room. After a shower, she collapsed onto the bed, ready for some rest. Suddenly, her phone rang. “Hello? Laura?” “Clara, I heard what happened with the Mae family. Why don’t you come stay at my place? My husband’s away on a business trip,” Laura, her close friend, suggested. “No need. I’m staying at a hotel for now. But if you’re free tomorrow, come house-hunting with me,” Clara replied. “Of course! The Mae family mistook a pearl for a pebble. They’ll regret it soon enough,” Laura said with a laugh. Clara chuckled coldly. She was completely disillusioned with the Mae family and no longer cared about them. “Alright, I’m exhausted. Talk to you tomorrow.” “Bye-bye!” Hanging up, Clara reflected on the day’s chaos. If I’m not the Mae family’s daughter, then who am I? Where are my real parents? Her back ached as she stretched. Thinking about Archer, she felt a surge of anger. At least I took the pills. Hopefully, our paths will never cross again. At the Hospital, Taylor approached Cassian. “Mr. Cassian, as you predicted, Mr. Dane sent someone to give Ms. Mae contraceptives. However, they don’t know that we replaced all the pills at the pharmacy with vitamins. If it’s past 72 hours, the chances of her conceiving are very high.” “Good. Have someone protect that girl in secret. Make sure nothing happens to her. If she’s carrying the Dane family’s child, it’s vital we ensure her safety,” Cassian said with a calculating smile.
