Chapter 7 Serendipitous Connections

The next day, Clara and Laura arranged to go house hunting together. Hand in hand, they entered the sales office, where a saleswoman, Emma, greeted them, “Are you here to view houses? What type of residence are you looking for?” Clara replied, “I’ll be living alone, so I don’t need a large house—just something cozy and quiet. Please, recommend something.” “Right this way, please.” Emma showed them around, while a colleague sneered, “Emma is so clueless; these two, dressed so plainly, are obviously just here to look. It’s a waste of time talking to them.” Meanwhile, she spotted a well-dressed couple approaching and quickly greeted them, “Are you here to look at houses?” Sylvie, linking arms with Owen, smiled sweetly, “Yes, we’re looking for a marriage house.” “This way, please.” They approached the model display just as the two groups ran into each other. Indeed, it was a small world full of coincidences. Sylvie remarked, “Oh, Clara, you’re here with Ms. Laura to buy a house?” Clara couldn’t even bother to glance at her. Laura scoffed, “Clara is buying a house, leaving your foolish Mae family. She will live more comfortably without you.” Sylvie joked, “Ms. Laura, stop kidding around. How could a country bumpkin like her afford a house?” Emma sensed the awkward atmosphere. “Ms. Mae, what do you think of the houses I’ve shown you?” Clara responded, “They’re all okay; I’ll just pick one at random.” Sylvie hummed, “Keep pretending.” Ignoring her completely, Clara didn’t even give her a look. “Owen, should we buy a villa for our marriage house? Let’s choose this one.” Sylvie pointed at a location. “The lady has great taste; this is the most luxurious villa here!” “Owen, just buy it, please.” Hearing the price, Owen knew it was over his budget, “Darling, let’s look at others.” Laura spat. What a pair of disgusting couple! Clara asked Laura, “Laura, what do you think of this one?” Laura glanced at it, “Clara, this house isn’t classy enough. You should buy the villa; it suits your grand status.” Sylvie sarcastically said, “Ha, that villa is over five million; she could never afford it.” Initially, Clara didn’t want the villa since it was too big for one person, but facing Sylvie’s mockery, she suddenly felt tempted. “Clara, stop looking, let’s just buy the villa.” “Okay.” Clara pulled out her bank card, “We’ll take this villa.” The saleswoman was thrilled, “Ms. Mae, will you be making installments or paying in full?” Clara coolly replied, “Full payment.” “Right away, I’ll start the paperwork.” “Clara, don’t act richer than you are; if there’s no money in your card, you’re going to get slapped hard.” Clara gave her a cold glance, “Noisy.” “You!” “Ms. Mae, your payment has gone through successfully. Let’s proceed with the paperwork over here.” “Okay.” Following the saleswoman to complete the paperwork, Laura made a taunting face at Sylvie, “Looks like you’re the one who got slapped. How does it feel, huh?” Fuming, Sylvie stomped her foot, “How could she possibly have so much money! She must have stolen from our Mae family. No way, I need to confront her!” As Archer came to buy a house, he stumbled upon Clara again. Seeing her nonchalantly purchase a five million villa, he wondered how someone so young could have so much money. Hearing someone accuse her of stealing, he looked disdainful.
