Chapter 14
Charles was thrown out of the Aldridge estate–along with every damning piece of evidence.
He knew he owed the Aldridge family an explanation. If he didn’t face this head–on, not only would Edward keep him from seeing Irene, but Charles wouldn’t even have the dignity left to face her himself.
The sky had darkened, thick storm clouds pressing low like they were ready to crush the earth.
Charles’s expression was grim as he drove straight back to the Whitmore estate.
The guests had all long since left. Without a second’s hesitation, he stormed straight into Elise Monroe’s room, fury radiating off of
him.
“Elise, I warned you. If you want Aiden to stay in this family, you’d better stay the hell away from Irene.”
He lunged, wrapping a hand around her throat, fingers tightening with every word.
“Why did you go to her? What the hell is this divorce agreement about?”
His eyes were bloodshot. All warmth had vanished–replaced with nothing but rage. He looked like he wanted to tear her apart.
Elise’s face turned red as she struggled to breathe, choking out a few strained words, “C–Charles…w what are you saying?I… I don’t understand…”
“Don’t understand?” Charles let out a chilling laugh. He grabbed the remote and played the surveillance footage–Elise handing him á document while he was blackout drunk. “Does this jog your memory?”
Elise’s gaze flicked to the screen and her face went ghost white. Her teeth chattered, and she couldn’t even get a full sentence out, “I–L… Charles.. the divorce agreement, Irene made me do it…”
“Cut the crap!” Charles’s grip tightened, All his rage, all the humiliation, all the betrayal–everything exploded in that moment. He couldn’t stop himself even if he wanted to
Elise flailed in panic, her eyes wide with terror as her breathing grew more labored.
Then–bang! The door burst open. Alden came rushing in.
He was frightened. His little voice cracked with sobs. “Daddy, stop! Please, let Mommy go!”
He tugged at Charles’s arm with all his might, but it didn’t budge.
Margaret arrived just behind him, yelling sharply, “Charles! Let her go–she’s carrying your child!”
At those words, Charles’s eyes twitched. His hand slowly released.
She was pregnant? Again?
His mind went blank All he could think about was Irene. What would she feel when she found out Elise was pregnant again? Would she be even more disappointed? More heartbroken?
The image of Irene’s lifeless eyes flashed in his mind. His heart clenched so tightly it hurt to breathe.
Elise collapsed onto the floor, gasping for alr. One hand covered her abdomen protectively. She thought she’d won.
That this baby would be her lifeline. That no matter what she’d done, Charles would forgive her.
But in the next second, his icy voice shattered her illusion. “This child… will not be born. I won’t let you have it.”
He turned toward the hallway. “Someone take her to the hospital. Get rid of it.”
His assistant quickly called in the staff. That was when Elise finally panicked. She scrambled on all fours and hid behind Margaret, pleading. “Please, ma’am–help me! I’m carrying Charles’s child!”

Margaret was stunned by Charles’s command. Her face paled, but she still moved to block the staff.
“You’ve lost your damn mind! Do you even hear yourself right now?”
“She’s pregnant with your child! How could you
be so cruel?”
“No matter what happened, Elise stays right where she is! Or are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
Charles clenched his jaw, struggling to stay calm.
He turned slowly to face her, voice strained with regret. “Mom… I already listened to you once. I let Irene walk away. I’m not making that mistake again.”
“Do it!” he ordered.
Now that Charles had full control over the Whitmore Corporation, the staff obeyed his word without hesitation.
They moved past Margaret and dragged Elise out as she screamed.

“No! Mommy! Please don’t take Mommy! Dad! Please…” Aiden sobbed, falling to his knees and crying until his voice cracked–but Charles didn’t even glance back.
Margaret clutched her chest, struggling to breathe. Her hand trembled as she pointed at her son. “You… You really want to…”
But the words wouldn’t come The world spun around her, and she nearly collapsed–only barely caught by the maids rushing to her side.
Charles stood alone in the chaos of the estate. But in his mind, there was only one face. Irene. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Irene… This time, I won’t let myself fail again.”
