Chapter 19
Elise had completely lost her mind.
She’d already escaped from a psychiatric hospital once and now that she’d hurt Charles, there was no way Margaret was going to let her off easily
In the end, it was Aiden who begged and pleaded until Margaret finally agreed to lock Elise in the attic of the Whitmore estate. She was to be watched around the clock, forbidden from causing any more trouble
But Charles’s condition in the hospital was far from stable, so Margaret spent most of her time at his bedside. As for Elise, she barely gave her a second thought.
The house staff didn’t like Elise to begin with. Now, they couldn’t be bothered.
Two meals a day, shoved through the door. Whether she ate or not? Not their concern.
Until one day, a maid noticed that the food had been left untouched for three days straight.
Panicking, she pushed the door open–only to scream in horror. Elise was hanging from the rafters. She was already gone.
The staff were terrified, and someone rushed to inform Margaret,
Margaret gritted her teeth the moment she heard the news. “Burn her, Bury her wherever. Just get it over with.”
To this day, she still regretted it bitterly it was her idea to put Elise in Charles’s bed all those years ago. And now that same woman had nearly killed her son.
Just thinking about it made her blood boil
Elise’s body was hastily buried. On the day of her burial, only Aiden came to see her–quietly, secretly
After all, she was still family. No matter how much she scared him, he couldn’t bear the thought of her dying alone.
The little boy stood quietly before her grave, head bowed. After a long moment, he turned and walked away without saying a word. Back in the UK, Irene had officially taken over her family’s company branch
Diana had finally gotten her fill of fun and returned to the manor with her husband William–bringing news from the Whitmores. She sighed as she spoke. Charles is still in a coma. The Whitmore family has no leader now. Everything’s falling apart.” Surprisingly, Irene felt nothing upon hearing it.
She had once loved Charles with everything she had. She’d given hirn her all, suffered for him, broken for him.
And now, hearing that he lay unconscious in a hospital bed… she felt nothing but peace.
Maybe this was fate’s way of drawing the final curtain on their mess.
All their love, pain, betrayal–it was finally over.
And in the end, no one got what they wanted.
“Are you going back home to see him?” Diana asked, her tone gentle and concerned.
She knew just how much Irene had once loved Charles. She’d seen firsthand how much she’d suffered for him.
They say we should forgive and forget once someone’s gone. And Charles‘ as good as gone now.
Irene shook her head, her voice steady. “I just took over this branch. I can’t leave yet.”
She had her own life now. Her own business. Her own people to protect and cherish.
Her gaze drifted toward the garden. There, Noah was playing happily in the sun. Chapter 15

“But you you’ve been out having fun all day. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think Noah was my son.”
Her words were full of mock scolding, but her actions told the truth
As soon as Noah saw her, he ran toward her like a little koala, and frene didn’t hesitate to scoop him up in her arms.
“Irene’s the best! I don’t care if Mom and Dad are off playing–I only need you!”
He clung to her like a baby bear, and she didn’t mind at all. Holding him close, her eyes softened.
Everyone nearby smiled at the scene, and Irene chuckled quietly, too.
Right now, she was happy.
