Because of the scar, I felt so guilty that I cried. However, Isaac gently wiped my tears away and chuckled indifferently, saying, “It’s fine. It’s just a scar. I’m still as handsome as ever.”
My tears fell even harder as I asked, “Does it hurt?”
Isaac panicked at the sight of my continued crying. “It doesn’t hurt. I’m not in any pain at all! Please don’t cry, okay? Please stop. My heart hurts to see you cry…

Back then, he risked his life without hesitation to save me from a fire. But now, I wasn’t the one he would do that for anymore.
Later on, tragedy hit Isaac’s family. The Emersons were ruined overnight and left with an overwhelming debt. Isaac, who was meant for greatness, ended up falling from grace, too.
I kneeled beside him and kissed his tears away, promising, “You still have me. I’ll always be with you.”
I chose to attend the same college as him and flew to the city where he was. We even talked about getting married as soon as we graduated from college.
Isaac loved me deeply then. He treated me extremely well. We were poor, but we were happy.
We lived in a tiny basement room without a window. Every day, we counted our pennies and tried to think of all sorts of ways to clear off the Emerson family’s debt as soon as possible. At the time, our only means of entertainment was to walk hand–in–hand along the road–it was a free activity.
Even so, I felt nothing but bliss. As long as I was with him, I felt utterly satisfied, even if all we did was sit around doing nothing.
Once, when he was drunk, he took my hand with a smile. Then, he took a necklace out of his pocket and carefully put it on me.
“Wear this one first. When I have more money, I’ll buy you a better one,” Isaac promised.
Well, things did turn out well for us. We no longer had to worry about money, and he did get me a more valuable necklace. Even so, I still loved that thin chain he first got me the most.
Everyone said Isaac treated me superbly well. Many men chose to abandon the woman who first accompanied them through their hardships once they became successful, but my relationship with Isaac remained as strong as ever.
I would’ve believed so too if Jenny hadn’t entered the picture.
