Isaac couldn’t believe his eyes. His heart was racing as he mumbled to himself, “I must be mistaken. Vicky went on holiday. Why would she show up here? I’m probably just hallucinating because I miss her too much,”
Jenny was just as shocked. She stared at me with her jaw dropped, too stunned to speak..
Compared to them, I was a lot calmer. In fact, I remained expressionless as I held my bouquet out, Jenny snapped out of her reverie and accepted mine before handing hers over.
Smiling at her, I said, “I hope you two have a happy marriage.”
The window came back up, and the car drove off once more as the two bridal parties carried on heading down opposite directions. It felt like a symbol of my relationship with Isaac. We were destined to go our separate ways.
However, just as the car started moving, I thought I heard a heart–wrenching shout. I instinctively looked toward the source of the sound, but Henry, who was sitting beside me, reached out and blocked my eyes with his hand.
He sounded a little hurt as he said, “Since you’ve agreed to marry me, Vicky, you’re not allowed to change your mind anymore.”
Was I hearing things? Why did his tone sound aggrieved to me?
Although we were getting married today, we were basically strangers. It seemed weird for him. to feel hurt or aggrieved. I figured my emotions had gotten to me earlier, addling my senses.
oving Henry’s hand aside, I responded carnestly, “Don’t worry. I’m someone who honors. y promises. Since I agreed to marry you, I will do as I have said. I won’t go back on my word.”
In any case, Isaac wasn’t worth having me change my mind anyway.
Inside the other car, Isaac felt even more and more flustered. Ignoring Jenny’s attempts to stop him, he called the airline to check on me, but he was informed that I hadn’t boarded the flight.
His mind went blank. Hands trembling, he called up the tour agency. “Did the tour guide meet up with Victoria?”
When he got a no there as well, he lost his mind.
“It was Vicky! That bride in the other car was Vicky! She lied to me! She didn’t go on the trip! Vicky…”
Isaac desperately lowered the window and tried to shout to my car, but all he got to see was the car shooting off into the distance.
Jenny tried to assure him, “I’m sure you’re mistaken, Isaac. She probably just looks a lot like Ms. Carter.”
