When I saw Mom’s body in the morgue, I felt my entire body go numb. An overwhelming surge of hatred followed shortly after.
I had kept my divorce and both Aaron’s and Rachel’s betrayal from Mom because I was fearful that she would relapse and get another heart attack.
Still, Mom died from a heart attack because of me.
The root cause of the whole fiasco was because of the years of jealousy Rachel had felt about me since we were young. She wanted to destroy and take away everything I had. She wanted to ruin my happiness.
If only I’d come back three hours earlier, I could probably still see Mom for the last time. I could probably even tell her that I did nothing wrong and didn’t break any laws.
But Aaron chose not to believe me and forced me to stay at the police station for hours.
If Rachel was Mom’s murderer, then Aaron was the accomplice who forbade me from seeing Mom off for the last time.
On the day of Mom’s funeral, Aaron appeared, dressed completely in black. I stopped him at once.

Aaron’s eyes were filled with remorse. He looked at me somberly and suddenly dropped to his knees.
“Katrina, I’m sorry. It was my fault. I should have trusted you.”
I looked at Aaron coldly.
“What’s the point of apologizing? Would it bring my mother back to life?”
I continued, “Since you keep thinking that I’m an evil person who would destroy your company and ruin your darling Rachel, fine. I’ll fulfill your wish. I can be even worse than what you think.”
Then, I took out my phone and found the video I had taken of him and Rachel doing the nasty in the morgue next to Dad’s. I sent the video to my family group chat, showing them that they could still get in the mood” at Dad’s funeral.
Everyone was attending Mom’s funeral at this point. When they saw this video, it was as if a bomb had exploded in the group chat as they started berating Rachel.
My family was made up of many successful educators. There were at least a hundred teachers, lecturers, and professors in our family group of just slightly over a hundred people.
Rachel’s parents and our grandparents were all respectable lecturers at a college. When they saw this video, Rachel’s dad, Uncle Patrick, replied, “Kat, I promise that I will do something about this.
“Everyone in this group chat can testify that I, Patrick Sanders, hereby sever my father–daughter relationship with Rachel Sanders.”
Her mother, Florence Earnshaw, sent the same message into the group chat, followed by Grandpa and Grandma.
In the end, everyone in the group, even those barely related to Rachel, renounced their relationship with her.
I raised my phone and showed Aaron their messages in the group. I said, “See that? I’m now the most evil woman you could ever have known. I made your darling Rachel’s family desert and abandon her.
“Also, don’t you dare think that I’m going to go easy on you. I will also send this video to your family group chat.”
Aaron’s extended family didn’t include educators like mine, but they were still quite well–known, wealthy businesspeople.
If I were to send the video to his family group, nobody would ever help him anymore in the future. Aaron just looked at me sadly and quietly.
“Do whatever you want if it makes you happier, Katrina.”
