Chapter 5
Watching Katherine flee in panic.
I calmly requested the shop assistant to dial the emergency number.
When I was lifted into the ambulance, my skirt had already been soaked in blood.
My consciousness began to scatter.
In a daze, I heard the nurse asking for my phone password. After unlocking it, the medical staff dialed six phone numbers from the emergency contacts in my phonebook, including my husband’s.
The last call was finally connected.
“Paityn, something happened at the company! An emergency meeting is being held right now. I will get back to you later! Take care, okay?”
The phone was hung up cleanly and neatly.
But I still heard Katherine’s voice in the background music.
I avoided the sympathetic gaze of the nurse and calmly wiped the blood off my hands onto my clothes.
Trembling, I took the phone and dialed the number for my mother.
I calmly told her.
“Mom, I… am going to give birth.”
“Don’t worry, listen to me. You… go home and get my ID card and the maternity bag, then take a taxi to Watson Hospital.”
“…Do whatever the doctor tells you to do next. I’m fine, Mom, don’t worry.”
The moment the phone hung up. I was finally overwhelmed by the continuous and excruciating pain, and let out a miserable cry.
Cold sweat slid down like water.
When I felt myself sinking into the abyss, I mustered my last bit of strength and grabbed onto the hand of the emergency doctor.
“Make sure to save my child!”
I couldn’t lose this child anymore.
My consciousness fluctuated constantly. At times, it seemed like I could hear my mother crying, and at other times, it was the doctor calmly urging for the blood bag to catch up quickly.
As a cold touch grazed my abdomen, I saw a glimpse of my past self under the cold white spotlight.
At that time, Bradley and I had just graduated from college.
We were very poor.
I rented the cheapest basement.
In order to save money, I would cook in the narrow corridor no matter how late I got off work.
Just a bowl of plain noodles and both of them were satisfied.
At that time, I just happened to pass by a storefront and glanced at a dress for a few moments.
Bradley could go without breakfast for two consecutive months.
When the skirt was bought, I yelled at him with heartache.
“What if you don’t eat breakfast and end up starving your stomach? Are you stupid?”
“Besides, why would I wear such an expensive dress?”
He embraced me, making solemn promises.
“My Paityn deserved the best things in the world. I would work hard to earn money and buy you the best things.”
Later, he rose steadily.
You have bought me more and more luxury goods.

But there was not a single item that could compare to that dress.
Later on, the man who used to say he loved me, had another woman.
In a state of drowsiness, I felt really sad.
When tears rolled down one by one,
I heard a strange and loud baby cry.
My heart felt as if it was filled with something, both sour and tender.
I struggled to open my eyes and asked with a choked voice.
“How is the child?”
“Don’t worry, expectant mother, a very healthy little princess!”
At that moment, I finally closed my eyes with relief.
I smelled the scent of disinfectant.
Breaking free from the dense darkness, when I opened my eyes, I saw my mother’s bloodshot eyes.
Before she even spoke, her tears started flowing down.
“My Paityn suffered. I touched her flat stomach and anxiously looked at her.”
“The child was here.”
The petite child lay in the curve of her arms, beautiful and serene like an angel.
