Chapter 52
Suzanne pressed her lips together. It seemed that Austin already knew about what had happened to her today. She slowly pulled away from his embrace Austin’s gaze softened as he watched the beautiful woman in front of him.
Suzanne’s calm voice broke the silence. “Don’t worry. I’m not that weak. I’ve just come to terms with things after what happened today.”
In the past, she had longed for Henry’s care and affection–but not anymore.
Austin’s eyes lingered on Suzanne as he thought of the details that Gabriel had shared with him. Her strength was truly heartbreaking, Anyone else would have crumbled, but Suzanne had endured it all.
His voice softened without him realizing it. Looking at her, he gently reassured her. “This will always be your home.
At that moment, Suzanne’s eyes suddenly grew warm, and her nose ringled with emotion.
The blood ties she once cherished felt less significant than her unexpected bond with a man she had randomly married.
Unable to hold back any longer, Suzanne moved forward and embraced Austin. She whispered, “Thank you.”
The moment the words left her lips, she felt Austin’s body stiffen. She realized he didn’t like bearing those words from her.
Suzanne sighed softly and looked up at him seriously. “Austin.”
He didn’t speak and only watched her intently
‘‘I truly mean it. After my mom passed, I’w never felt cared for again. For years, I was just a poem for them to play with, but you’ve been so good to me.”
The coldness in Austin’s eyes gradually faded.
Suzanne looked at him seriously and continued, “Especially at a time like this. Your presence feels like salvation. I’m truly grateful for you, Austin. Thank you for being here. Thank you for having my back.”
Austin’s expression grew more complicated. His gaze softened with a layer of tenderness.
He didn’t say anything in return. Instead, he simply held her and gently caressed her back repeatedly. Suzanne’s heavy emotions began to lighten.
She closed her eyes. Perhaps God was watching over her. In her most difficult and desperate time, Austin appeared in her life
Even though their bond wasn’t built on love, she would never forget this friendship for the rest of her life
After a long while, Suzanne regained her composure and slowly pulled away from his embrace.
Austin gazed at her pale face and noticed no tears in her eyes. She was just too strong.
“Uh..” Suzanne awkwardly coughed. “I–I’ll go take a bath.”
“Eat first.” Austin quickly grabbed her arm, stopping her from heading to the bathroom.
Suzanne opened her mouth, about to protest that she wasn’t hungry, but the domineering look in his eyes made her pause. After a brief moment of hesitation, she was about to agree, but Austin simply took her by the hand and led her out of the bedroom.
“Hey..” She started to protest.
“No matter what, your health comes first.” A
