Chapter 77
Feeling slightly awkward, Suzanne glanced at Austin and explained, “I only went up there because I lost a bet.”
She leaned in closer and whispered in his ear, “You wouldn’t want me not to keep my word, right?”
While smelling the faint fragrance of her perfume, Austin froze and narrowed his eyes. His gaze landed on Suzanne’s exposed waist–its pale skin gleaming under the light.
His Lrows furrowed, and without hesitation, he took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
Suzanne didn’t refuse. Instead, she wrapped it tighter around herself.
With his gaze fixed on her, Austin said calmly, “Since you’re here, let me introduce you to a few people.”
Suzanne nodded, showing no objection. But she glanced at Marsha and the others, saying, “Wait for me. I’ll just go say hi to my friends first.”
Austin acquiesced to her words.
Draped in Austin’s jacket, Suzanne walked over to her friends. As soon as she approached Matthew, the others eagerly crowded around her, their faces brimming with excitement and curiosity. “Suzanne, who’s that man?”
Suzanne instinctively looked back toward Austin, who stood tall and composed in the same spot, waiting for her patiently. She turned back with a light smile and said, “A friend.”
Her friends were unconvinced, but Suzanne’s tone made it clear that she didn’t want to elaborate. In fact, her vague explanation added a layer of ambiguity.
Suzanne turned to Marsha and gently took her hand.” Marsha, I have something to do, so I’ll head over first.”
Marsha understood her immediately and gave her a playful wink and teasing smile. “Got it. Have fun.”
Suzanne chuckled and playfully punched her shoulder. “Shut up!”
Marsha nodded repeatedly. Though she had many questions for Suzanne, now wasn’t the right time. She could only wait for another day to ask her. Suzanne turned to Janice and the rest and said, “You guys have fun.”
Then, she headed back toward Austin.
Meanwhile, Jenson watched Suzanne’s retreating figure with a gloomy expression. So, this was why she had been so adamant about distancing herself from him that day–it was because of Austin?
Among their group, a few women couldn’t help but glance at Jenson as they murmured amongst themselves. “No wonder Suzanne said she wasn’t interested in Mr. Lambert. It’s because she found someone better.”
“Exactly. You can just tell that he’s not ordinary. Ms. Yates sure knows how to pick!”
These comments reached Jenson’s ears, and their judging gazes were a further blow to his pride. The gentle smile he had maintained for the whole night finally cracked completely.
Suzanne followed Austin into his private booth..
As soon as she stepped inside, Charles rushed up to her with a warm smile before she could even sit. “Welcome, welcome! Beautiful lady, my name is Charles Jennings. You can just call me Charlie. What would you like to drink? I’ll get it for you.”
Before Suzanne could respond, he brought over a fruit platter and set it down beside her. “Try this. If you don’t like it, I’ll have the staff bring over something else.”
Charles wore a huge smile on his face, but his heart was racing in panic. It was his first time trying to win over such a beautiful woman. He bustled about, doing everything he could to please her.
Despite his efforts, Suzanne remained indifferent, simply flashing a polite yet distant smile. “Thank you”
Charles‘ expression froze momentarily, and he couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Crap, she was an ice queen!
What was he supposed to do now?
He looked pleading at Herman, who simply watched the scene with an amused smile.
