Chapter 37
The moment the car door opened, the last note of the piano faded into the night air. Hayden was just a heartbeat away from hearing the music he had longed for. The gears of fate felt stuck at a crucial moment
As usual, Hayden strode toward the villa, only to hear murmurs from the servants.
It’s so beautifu
Tve never heard music like that before.”
“I heard it’s Mrs. Yvonne Parker playing the piano
“She is amazing!
“Yvonne is playing the piano? She has been sick during the day and is lively at night?‘ Hayden raised an eyebrow, remembering her stunning solo from the party earlier. His eyes deepened in thought, and he picked up his pace.

after I finished playing a piece, I felt like I had poured out most of my emotions. I thought it was time to head upstairs and rest
at the door. He wanted to soak in the beautiful music too “Why did you stop playing?” Hayden suddenly asked at the
I glanced back. The distance between us was just a few steps, yet it felt as far away as the stars.
Rita reacted differently. She chimed in eagerly. “You gave the piano to Mrs. Parker, and she really loves it
She was doing her best to push is together. Even though the Parker family hadn’t fully accepted me as Hayden’s wife, I had spent some time with Rita and we’d formed a connection.
Hayden’s expression shifted to one of doubt as he said, “I gave it? When was that?” Then he looked at the piano.
Noticing his surprise, I understood that the piano wasn’t a gift for me. Besides leaving me with scars and pain, he had never actually given me anything meaningful
Just then, Richard rushed in, looking pale. Tm sorry, Mr. Parker. The delivery guy messed up the address. I make sure it gets to Ms. Charlotte’s place right away

Now, it clicked–this piano was meant for Joanna. Since I got one at the party earlier, Hayden was trying to make it up to her with this, Unfortunately, it had been mistakenly sent to me at Rosy House.
Suddenly, the piano felt like a hot potato, and I quickly got up
and moved away.
Rita caught on too and felt awkward. After living for so long, she could see through men quite well, especially those from wealthy families–few of them were truly faithful.
While they kept their relationship on the down–low, Hayden was the opposite. He didn’t shy away from gifting things to his mistress in front of everyone, and he was even looking into buying propenies for her.
Rita had heard the gossip about what went down at the hospital that day and couldn’t help but feel bad for Yvonne, who had been left all by herself for a whole year.
The atmosphere became tense. I glanced at Hayden and offered a small smile. I’m really sorry for accidentally touching the gift meant for your loved one.”
The tension seemed to escalate. Ignoring Hayden’s reaction, I turned and headed upstairs.
I really overestimated myself, thinking I had seen it all and that I wouldn’t care if I stopped loving. But every time such painful things happened right in front of me, it reopened the old wounds in my heart
I snuggled up in a blanket, fearing I’d be staring at the ceiling all night. But I drifted off pretty soon–being sick could actually numb one to sadness and pain.
1 had no idea what time Hayden came into the room, but I slept soundly until morning
When I finally opened my eyes, I expected to see the familiar window, but instead, I was startled by a handsome face just inches from mine.
I froze for a moment. Am I still dreaming! Why’s there a handsome man? It only took me a second to realize that was Hayden.

I was so shocked that I forgot to breathe. My body went stiff as I realized 1 was lying in Hayden’s arms. My head rested on his arm, and our faces were almost touching, our breaths mingling
For a normal couple, this might be just another morning. But for Hayden and me, it felt like something out of a fairy tale. This moment hit my heart like an explosion.
What on earth happened? Did I sleep so soundly that I ended up in Hayden’s arms! Oh no, how could I have let that slip! My mind was racing, and my heart was pounding like a drum.
I had to get out of there fast. If Hayden woke up and saw me like this, he’d for sure think I was after him again.
I gritted my teeth and carefully tried to slip out of his embrace. Just as I sighed in rehef, he suddenly opened his bright eyes. I froze–did 1 wake
him
Fortunately, Hayden didn’t say a word. He just cased himself up and started rubbing his right arm.
I watched, my nerves un edge. Did I do this to him?
Hayden noticed me staring and turned his gaze toward me. I quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact. I pulled off the blanket and got out of bed.
I reached for my shoes with my foot but failed. Looking down, I realized the door was empty. “Where are my shoes?” I wondered aloud. I was sure had put them next to the bed before I went to sleep.
At that moment, Hayden got up and walked to the door. “Get a pair of slippers and bring them here, he instructed. A moment later, a servant came in with the slippers
“But they were here last night. I was still bewildered. Could I have been sleepwalking again and tossed them somewhere! But when I checked my feet, they were clean. It was unsettling not to feel fully in control of my own life.
The servant didn’t seem too worned and said, “Maybe they got kicked under the bed. I’ll clean up later”
“Okay,” I replied, sill unsure. Just then, the family doctor came in to check my temperature, so I decided to put the shoe mystery out of my mind
for now
“You don’t have a fever anymore, but you’re still weak and need extra care, the family doctor advised.
I’d heard that line plenty of times in the hospital, so I just nodded without thinking too much of it After applying some light makeup, I beaded downstairs.
During breakfast, Deborah suddenly spoke up. “Yvonne, you look really pale. The doctor said you need to rest and recover.
“The weather is nice today Hayden, how aboun you skip the office and take Yvonne to South Bay Lake to relax! The fish there are great. Catch a few
for Yvonne.
It was obvious she was trying to set up a chance for me and Hayden to spend time together. But if there was something real between Hayden and me, how could we need to be pushed into it like that!
Before Hayden could say anything, I quickly declined. “I just started at the company and still have a lot to learn”
Hayden’s expression changed slightly, showing he was a bit annoyed. ‘Grandina, there’s a shareholder meeting today” he replied coldly, his Indifference making the atmosphere feel tense
I couldn’t help but give a way smile. It was only in situations like this that Hayden and 1 truly got each other.
But Deborah wasn’t done. She looked directly at Hayden and scolded him, “What’s more important, the company or your wife!”
