Chapter 43
Is that Hayden! He was the only one here in the hot spring pool.
I choked on a few mouthfuls of water and flailed around for a short while before Hayden dragged me ashore. He shook my body vigorously. shouting “Yvonne!”
I felt so dizzy and weak that I couldn’t even speak. It seemed he was getting anxious and began to pat my checks…
Tfrowned, thinking. Dude, did you plan to take revenge? But I couldn’t voice my thoughts because, before I knew it. Hayden clasped his hands together and pressed hard on my chest, nearly breaking my ribs in the process.
I used the last of my strength to try to yell at him, but as the words formed, I saw him leaning over me quickly. That enormous shadow engulfed me, and then there was a soft pressure on my lips.
I froze. It took me a few seconds to realize he was giving me mouth–to–mouth! Just then, I regained a bit of strength and pushed him away forcefully. “You get away from me.”
I groggily spat out those words, instinctively shifting to the side, which made me choke on more water, hacking violently.
Hayden stared at me, seeming relieved. “You’re not dead!”
1 didn’t catch the happiness in his tone and snapped back, “Sorry to disappoint you.”
His expression faltered for a moment, but surprisingly, he didn’t scold me. He placed one hand on my back and swept his other arm under my knees, effortlessly lifting me up.
“What
are you doing?” I was both weak and angry. Why was he always getting so hands–on with me lately?
“Shut up,” he shot back with a curt response, his handsome face sliding back into its usual indifferent expression
As he carried me toward the door, the servants were left in shock. “Mr. Parker, Mrs. Parker…”
“Go call a doctor?” he barked, and then he sprinted back to the bedroom, holding me tightly
I rested against him, completely puzzled, as I studied his profile. With each of his quick strides, I jostled; even the ends of his hair dripped with
water.
I found myself lost in thought. Hayden, didn’t you hate me? Why were you doing things that could easily touch someone’s heart! I really couldn’t understand you. If you didn’t love me and detested me so much, why not just stay cold and let me totally give up!
Once we got back to the room, Hayden had a maid change my clothes, and then the doctor arrived. After checking my temperature and examining me, it felt like hours had passed, and the sky was nearly dark.
Luckily, there didn’t seem to be any serious issues, but Rita was completely freaked out. She insisted I stay in bed to rest. She brought me some ginseng soup and chatted away at my bedside
“Mrs. Parker, Mr. Parker has really changed. You should’ve seen how worried he was about you when he carried you back. After the doctor left, he even followed him outside to ask about your condition! He told me to take good care of you,” she said.
I listened to her, taking it as a joke; I didn’t believe it for a second. Most likely, Hayden was just trying to put on a show for Deborah. If I thought he cared about me sincerely, that would just be naive.
“Let’s cancel the dinner plans tonight I want to rest,” I weakly shifted the topic
Rita looked a bit disappointed, but seeing me like this, she seemed unable to push it further, Okay, Mrs. Parker, you get some sleep. She tucked me in before leaving.
Not long after, a servant brought over the things that I
that Hayden and I had left by the hot spring, our two smarphones.
I picked up my phone, only to find that the screen was shattered and the bottom corner was deformed. Hayden’s phone, on the other hand, looked just finet How infuriating that my phone got broken wondered if Lucy was worried sick about me
I wanted to use Hayden’s phone to call her and let her know I was okay, but then I realized I had no idea what his password was. A wave of bitterness washed over me: I must have just been a stranger to Hayden…
Just as I was about to toss the phone aside, Joanna’s call suddenly came through. I froze on the bed. No password is needed to answer a call–should I pick up or not?

Typically. I’d be too lazy to deal with her, but for some reason, I ended up answering. Maybe I was just annoyed at Hayden for breaking my phone and thought I could stir up some trouble for hins
As soon as the call connected. I heard Joanna’s sweet voice. “Hayden, I got the piano you sent me! I wanted to apologize in person, but since you didn’t come to the office today, I missed you a little…”
I maintained my cold expression, forcing a smile as I replied. “The piano sounds great. I tried it out, and it suits you well”
I could tell Joanna fell silent on the other end. It was easy to imagine her face stiffening right at that moment. “By the way. Hayden has been with me all day today” I felt that wasn’t enough, so I added, “He’s with me now,”
Joanna would definitely go after Hayden later, right! Serves him right for breaking my phone.
“You!” Joanna’s voice turned from sweet to sharp and biting. Yvonne, are you deliberately trying to provoke me? So what if Hayden’s with you? He’s about to divorce you! Even if he stays with you, his heart is still with me!“
Just like a wild fox who had its tail stepped on, she was baring her teeth now.
“I don’t care where his heart is; I only know he’s here with me now, and he’s got his money with me too. What have you… gotten?” I countered, feeling a sudden surge of defiance.
Joanna was right; I was going to divorce Hayden anyway, so why not act a little crazy? Why should I just sit back and
take their
crap!
“How shameless! He doesn’t love you!” Joanna said.
“Love?” I laughed derisively. “What a ridiculous idea.
When I didn’t care about anything, Joanna had nothing she could use to attack or hurt me. I could practically hear her grinding her teeth!
“Hayden can betray me; he could just as easily betray you in the future I continued to fan the flames.
“No, he won’t!” Joanna sounded more flustered now, speaking too quickly for her usual pace. “Hayden promised to repay me and take care of me for
“Repay you? Just because you babysat him for a day? Oh no… maybe not even for that long! I scoffed. What kind of favor was that that required repayment?
Joanna froze for a moment, then took a while so regain her composure. “What nonsense are you talking about! A day! I took care of Hayden for half a month!”
“Where’s the proof?” I pressed.
“As long as Hayden knows, why do I need to explain it to you?” Joanna’s mouth moved quickly, clearly wanting to drop the subject.
I wanted to say more, but just then, Hayden walked in through the door. We exchanged a glance, and his gaze quickly landed on the phone I held up to my ear. I had no intention of hiding anything, so I shrugged. “Joanna’s calling you
