Chapter 49
Jamie was an artist. He spent his days cooped up at home, painting, and he didn’t have a single athletic bone in his body. How could he ever stand a chance against Nevin
When Nevin threw a punch, Jamie’s face turned as he got hit, and a tooth flew out.
The bloody tooth rolled on the floor before stopping at my feet. It took me a moment to react, and I rushed over to grab Nevin. “Are you crazy? Stop it!”
“Get off me! You all teamed up to set me up!” Nevin’s eyes were bloodshot and he had completely lost it. He shook me off violently and balled his fists again, ready to hit Jamie.
1 stumbled and crashed into the edge of a table, pain sharp and immediate in my lower back,
This time, Jamie was ready. He grabbed Nevin’s wrist and shouted, “Why don’t you come at me instead? What kind of man hits a woman!!
“You’re defending her! Are you two involved or something! No wonder she keeps yelling about divorcing my brother–it’s because of you!” Nevin spat out his accusations, not holding back at all.
“You jerk!” Jamie shouted in anger, clenching his fist and sending a powerful punch right at Nevin’s face! The smack echoed even louder than the last one, and Nevin recoiled, clutching his face in obvious pain.

Just as I regained my senses, I saw Nevin spit out two teeth.
He and Jamie were about to fight again when people intervened, sensing the situation had escalated. I’m not even sure who called the cops, but the three of us ended up at the police station. Reluctantly, I called my cousin Stanley, and Hayden was brought in too,
Through the glass, I spotted my cousin in a dark gray suit, sporting gold–rimmed glasses, negotiating with the officers. He sighed deeply, “Great, my brother’s definitely gonna chew me out later….
Stanley was from the same side of the family as me. My dad inherited the family wealth, while his dad had left long ago to chase his dreams, only returning years later with Stanley in tow
He didn’t really care about the family business, so aside from a few close relatives, most people didn’t even know about his branch of the Jackson Family
His dad and mine never really got along. We didn’t interact much when we were young and only started to get familiar after we grew up and began hanging out occasionally.
When I decided to marry Hayden, Stanley was totally against it. He tried to convince me for ages, but it was no use. For months afterward, he barely spoke to me… Yet whenever I needed him and called, he was always the first to show up, just like today.
Jamie was sitting nearby with an ice pack on his face. Hearing me speak, he turned to follow my gaze. “You think so! He seems so refined
“You have no ideal It’s the refined types that can be the scariest!” I shook my head, then turned my attention back to the scratches on his arm, Without thinking. I grabbed some alcohol and cotton swabs from the table to help him clean up his wounds.
We were friends after all, and seeing him in such a rough state, offering a hand felt totally normal.
However, this scene caught Nevin’s attention from a distance. Like he’d found a weakness, he shouted at Hayden, “Bro! Look! Yvonne’s totally in cahoots with Jamiet They’re just trying to take me down!”
He had lost a couple of teeth too, and after getting yelled at by Hayden once they arrived at the station, his head was still spinning. He was just looking for a chance to shift Hayden’s focus
Hayden didn’t even look back, his expression dark and serious, “You still think it’s not enough trouble!”
Nevin deflated like a popped balloon. They attacked me first..
“Who told you to h them? Hayden’s brows were furrowed confidence radiating from him as he confronted Nevin, a palpable intensity filling the
air!
Nevin hung his head, not able to muster a single word in defense.
Once he finally quieted down, Hayden turned around. His gaze instinctively began to search the room for Yvonne, quickly finding her delicately tending to Jamie’s injuries,

Yvonne carefully blew on Jamie’s wound. Seeing this, Hayden felt a pause in his heart, quickly followed by a strange emotion–an unexplainable irritation. Not even the coldest of winters could compare to the dark, brooding look in his eyes.
Ever since be returned to the country, Yvonne had either been cold to him or had been arguing with him, yet she treated other men with such care and kindness, Had she forgotten who her husband was? The hands behind his back quietly clenched into fists.
Unbeknownst to him. Yvonne had easily triggered his emotions. Even though she hadn’t even glanced his way or said a word
Just then, Stanley finished his chat with the police and pushed open the glass door. “How’s the injury? Do you need to go get it checked?” He asked
Jamie stood up, responding, “It’s nothing serious, just lost a tools. But I think Yvonne got hurt too”
I was taken aback; I hadn’t expected him to notice me in such an urgent situation. Seeing my cousin looking worriedly at me, I quickly shook my head, “I’m line, just bumped my waist. What did you tell the cops?”
Stanley furrowed his brow, studying me for a moment before he concluded, probably because I didn’t seem to be in pain. “Nevin has already committed intentional harm for the second time. The chances of filing a lawsuit successfully just went way up.
Originally, Nevin’s case had already been successfully filed, and now he had continued his reckless behavior. There was no doubt he was pushing himself deeper into trouble
Jamie sighed with relief. Before I could say anything, Hayden approached. “Are you hurt!” He asked me.
Twas a bit shocked, shouldn’t he be worried about his brother right now?
Before I could respond, Jamie scoffed, “You actually care about Yvonne? first it your stupid brother who started this?”
“Who are you calling stupid Nevin charged over angrily. He looked like he was about to throw a punch, but Hayden shot him a cold glare, and Nevin obediently stood still,
“Apologize to Yvonne! Hayden said in a low voice,
- Nevin was certainly inwilling, his cheeks pulled up defiantly
Stanley couldn’t stand it any longer. He said in a cold tone, “Mr. Nevin, I’m formally notifying you that I represent my client, Yvonne, in suing you for defamation. A lawyer’s letter will reach you by tomorrow.”
“What did I defame her about! She’s a married woman, dining aloor with other men, getting cozy! If she can’t behave herself, how can she expect not to be talked about?!” Nevin exploded, shouting loudly.
I stared at his exaggerated expression, but any mand flashed back to when Hayden had returned home with Joanna, attending a welcome party Why hadn’t anyone called him a married man for being alone with another woman? Nevin had even seemed thrilled about having a new sister–in-
In the heavy silence, Hayden suddenly raised his hand and slapped Nevin across the face. The sharp sound echoed through the police station. bringing about an eerie stillness.
