Chapter 52
“Given all this, you still want to marry me by any means necessary!” Hayden squinted, leaning in to size me up. His nose was almost a centimeter away, so close I felt like it could touch mine at any moment!
I instinctively held my breath, my body tensed up tight! Just a little movement and I could accidentally brush against him, and then there would be no way to explain myself.
After a long standoff, I finally said, “Had I known it would come to this, I would have rather died than marry you” Unfortunately. It was too late for
and many regrets could no longer be fixed.
realization now,
Hayden’s pupils suddenly contracted, and his gaze toward me was a whirlwind of emotions–confusion, shock, and disbelief all mixed together. Before I could decipher his reaction further, he pushed away from me and strode out of the room.
In the blink of an eye, the spacious bedroom was once again empty, leaving only me behind. The biting wind from the balcony rushed in, wailing defiantly in my ears….
It felt like a huge wound had been carved into my heart, blood gushing out like a fountain, the pain making my very soul tremble.
Every time I said those hurtful words to Hayden, my heart was tormented just as much, right? Hurting him also meant hurting myself..
Not long after, Rita knocked and stepped in, holding a variety of medicine bottles. “Mrs. Parker, you’re hurt? Let me help you with that”
1 paused for a moment, then recalled what Hayden had said. Since the injury was on my back, it was difficult for me to treat it myself, so I let her take care of it
Rita was already aware of Nevin’s shuation, and while she applied the medicine, she vented angrily. “How could Nevin be so cruel Your skin is so delicate, seeing the bruises makes me feel really sorry for you!”
She was part of the Parker family, so it was rare for her to defend me like this. I adjusted my clothes with a light smile, “He’s never been fond of me.”
“He’s just being a brat, thinking you stole Hayden’s attention from him. I heard from the folks at the Parker residence that he has been kneeling for over three hours tonight! Xander is genuinely furious this time!” Rita added.
“Three hours.” I frowned, calculating that it had been nearly three hours since I returned from the Parker residence. Nevin was still kneeling?
“Yep! Mrs. Parker, you should rest. Just call me if you need anything” Rita said before leaving, I noticed her footsteps were quick, likely eager to rush back and discuss this with the others.
Nevin’s current situation was a product of the Parker family’s indulgence, and I was a bit surprised that Xander actually went through with punishing Nevin this time.
Today was my day off, and I didn’t have to go to the office. I spent the morning relaxing at home and planned to meet up with Stanley in the afternoon.
At Jackson Law Firm, Stanley’s secretary led me to his office, smiling warmly “Mr. Jackson will be back shortly. Please have a seat.”
I nodded and waited for her to leave before looking around Stanley’s office.
It was my first time here. In the past, he had worked at a big firm, and I rarely visited. This was his first law office since he became a partner, and it looked impressive.
I glanced at his desk, which was clean and organized. Every document was neatly arranged in alphabetical order, and the surface was spotless—just like his personality, meticulous and precise.
However, one exception stood out a picture frame beside his computer. Inside, there was a photo of him and his ex–girlfriend, both bearning in their graduation caps and gowns, side by side.
At that moment, I remembered the youthful sparkle in my cousin’s eyes. Ever since the breakup, he hadn’t dated anyone new for years. I figured be must still be hung up on his first love.
Just then, I heard the sound of the door opening behind me. I instinctively turned around to see Stanley walk in. Noticing me holding the picture frame, he spoke casually, “It’s just a keepsake, nothing more”
“Are you explaining that to me or to yourself?” I chuckled, deciding not to probe further. Everybody had their own stories; there was no need to explain them to anyone else.
I put the frame down and asked, “Are you really planning to take Jamie’s case?”

“This is a case only I can handle. Stanley stated straightforwardly.
I rubbed my nose awkwardly. “While that’s true, your expression just now was a bit too proud.
Stanley smirked, looking quite pleased with himself. “Isn’t being overly humble just a form of hypocrisy! No lawyer in Elysiumville dares to offend the Parker family
He really was a genius in the legal world, winning more often than not at such a young age. Powerful figures had to tread lightly around him.
I nodded in agreement. “That’s true; not everyone is as exceptional as you and stands up to the powerful.”
“Not quite.” Stanley shook his head, his expression growing serious. “Because Hayden is my brother–in–law.”
I was taken aback, my smile fading. “Not for long”
“At least for now, Hayden doesn’t seem to have any intention of divorcing you,” Stanley said confidently. He had spoken to Hayden briefly the night before and noticed some hints.
My earlier good mood vanished in an instant. “Let’s not talk about him–what are your plans!”
Stanley studied me for a moment before smiling and pulling out a chair. “Come on, why are you so serious? You’re here, after all.” He walked around the desk and took a seat in the main chair, handing me two files
“I went over the case from six months ago, and with this new information about how Nevin struck first, we have a good chance of winning. He’ll likely get at least three years, But.. well, you know how powerful the Parkers are; they won’t let Nevin go to jail,” Stanley explained.
He had thought of everything, including why he could take on this case. Any other lawyer in Elysiumville who dared to touch it would be crushed by the Parkers, but he was different. Given their relationship, the Parkers wouldn’t act rashly.
For the first time, he thought bring a Jackson had its perks.
I flipped through the documents in my hand, frowning. “So, we’re out
out of options?”
“It’s not that we have no options. Didn’t the Parkers give you a cruise ship? Stanley suddenly asked with a playful smile.
I froze, my hand holding the files stiffening. How did you know?”
“It’s the talk of the town, Stanley used, stroking his chin. The Parkers sure are generous. I bet the annual income from that cruise ship could fund the Jackson Group for years.
Just as I was about to retort, Jamie burst in, pointing directly at me. “Yvonne, did you take a bribe from the Parkers to make me withdraw the lawsuit I can’t believe I thought we were good friends, I really misjudged you?
