Joanna had missed her shot at redemption, a HR
Deborah was a true aristocrat, exuding a natural pride that came with her status. She didn’t even glance at me, the juvv……. let alone someone like a second wife or an adopted daughter. They simply didn’t matter to her
Claring at Joanna, Deborah said in an icy voice, “You say Hayden talks about me a lot? What’s your relationship with him?
“…” Joanna stammered, struggling to make an introduction.
Seeing her floundering. I chimed in, “Grandma, this is Joanna.”
Deborah once heard about Joanna and knew Joanna was Hayden’s kept woman. Her eyes clouded over at the mention of her name.
“Well, with the home wrecker at your door, you’re still acting all weak. Where’s the backbone of a lady of the house?!” Deborah lashed out at me. My face froze, and I managed an awkward grin, “Grandma, she is, after all Hayden’s..”
I was about to say she was Hayden’s sweetheart, but Deborah cut me off with a dismissive wave. “Get these annoying pests out of my sight! They’re grating on my nerves How am I supposed to sleep? I was taken aback by Deborah’s bluntness.
Sophia and Joanna were both shocked, taking a moment to gather themselves. What Pests! Mrs. Parker, that’s going too far, isn’t it I am Yosef’s wife! L. Sophia said.
Before she could finish, a bodyguard stepped in. “Ma’am, this way, please”
something! We’re your family.
You can’t treat
can’t treat us like this!
Joanna looked thustered, her eyes darting around. “Mom, what do we do Sophia turned to me, her fierceness replaced by desperation, Yvonne, say I raised an eyebrow, thinking that her change in attitude was lightning–fast. But I wasn’t buying it, so I watched them get escorted out by the bodyguards without a word.
With Deborah taking care of these two headaches, I was all for it and kept my mouth shut
Soon, the living room was back in its peaceful state. Deborah glanced at Rita and coldly ordered. “The guards at the door are clueless. Fire them all. How dare they let just anyone into my home!”
Rita hesitated for a moment before nording. “Yes, Mr. Parker,”
I hadn’t spent much time with Deborals, only knowing she was from a noble background and a bit aloof. Expecially when she was with me. She never showed a friendly face. I never knew she could be so decisive and tough
After Rita left, I helped her sit on the sofa.
“Did you take in what I said just now?” Deborah asked suddenly.
I blinked, not quite catching on at first, so I asked, “Grandma, which part are you referring to!”
“Since you’re Hayden’s wife, you need to show some backbone. It’s your cowardice that lets these wild women get more and more brazen Deborah spoke with passion, her face full of genuine concern for me.
I was surprised that she, who never seemed to like me much, would stand
up
for me.
I lowered my eyes and spoke indifferently. ‘Grandma, Hayden likes her. No matter how authoritative I am, it’s useless.” I couldn’t bring myself to compete with another woman over a nari
“What liking? I can’t stand the sight of women like her. Hayden has better taste than I do; he couldn’t possibly like her! It’s just a passing fancy!” Deborah said with absolute certainty.
I gave a bitter smile. Hayden and Deborah were alike in one thing–they both didn’t like me.
“Grandma “I started to make an excuse, but Deborah suddenly reached out and grabbed my hand. Her touch was warm, like a soft blanket wrapping around me. It was one of those feelings that was hard to put into words, but it was definitely mesmerizing.

Chapter 55
Lost in thought for a moment. I then heard Deborah say earnestly. Yvonne, now that you’re married to Hayden, you gotta stand your ground and protect your marriage. Don’t give an inch before the battle even starts!
She went on, “When I first tied the knot with Hayden’s grandpa, we had our fair share of bumps in the road. If I’d thrown in the towel like you’re thinking of doing, I wouldn’t be here today.”
It was the first time I’d heard Deborah mention the past, and I couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Grandma, could you endure it?”
“Marriage is about day–to–day life, not some lovey–dovey fairy tale. If you don’t make love the main topic, it’s the same with anyone,” Deborah said. pating my hand. Her eyes had seen it all, and she seemed a million miles away from all the drama.
She had a point; if love wasn’t on the table in a marriage, there wasn’t much to fuss over.
Seeing that I hadn’t spoken for a while, Deborah continued. “You’re a good kid, but you love Hayden 100 much. Learn to love yourself more, and life will get better.”
Deborah seemed to have seen through everything from the start. She didn’t look down on the Jackson family for being too lowly; instead, she saw that I was as foolish as she had been back then.
I listened quietly, feeling a sudden sting in my eyes. The truth was that all these years, I’d been all about Hayden. I hadn’t even given myself or my own family the love they deserved.
Everyone saw me as clueless and foolish, but Deborah’s work hit home. At that moment, I sat there on the couch, speechless.
Deborah didn’t push me, instead, she gently ran her fingers through my hair near my temple. “Look at you. You’re way more stunning than Joanna. What have you got to be scared of just show them how a real classy lady carries herself”
Her words made me laugh. I felt so sad just now, but I couldn’t help it and laughed out loud “Grandma, how could you.
“What are you scared of? You only get one shot at this life, so when it’s your time to shine, go for it!” Deborah advised use, her voice firm.
I’d never seen this side of her, and in caught me off guard and warmed my heart. After my grandpa and mom passed away, nobody gave me advice
like this.
When Hayden walked in, he caught me and Deborah laughing our heads of. He stood there, shocked. I guess he, like me, wasn’t used to seeing Deborah so friendly, especially sharing a laugh with me.
“Grandma,” Hayden said, making his way over, his eyes darting around the living room, likely on the hunt for someone
I guessed he came back in a hurry because he knew Joanna was
as here: he usually doesn’t roll in until way past dark
“Well, don’t Grandma me” Deborah’s smile faded fast as she turned to Hayden with a frosty look.
I couldn’t believe how Deborah’s attitude changed so suddenly.
Hayden was also puzzled and asked, “What happened?”
