Chapter 56
“Can you believe you’re even asking that? The woman you’re messing around with had the nerve to insult me. I’ve never been so disrespected in my life! Deborah fumed, her anger making her face almost twitch with tension.
1 quickly patted her back, trying to soothe her. ‘Grandma, don’t let it get to you.”
“Was it Joanna who insulted you?” Hayden questioned, his deep eyes cloudled with suspicion. In his mind, Joanna was understanding and gentle, not someone who would curse.
I quickly noticed Hayden’s gaze turning towards me, and a sense of foreboding washed over me. I bristled like a hedgehog, defensively snapping. “What are you looking at me for! You think I’m framing her!”
Hayden remained silent, probably because he really did suspect me of setting her up.
Deborah jumped to my defense right away. “Don’t pin everything on Yvonne. What just went down was seen by everybody. If you let that woman step foot in our house, you can count me out as your grandma!”
Deborah’s stance was firm and clear, and even Hayden didn’t dare to argue
That evening. Rita prepared a bath for me. While 1 lazily swirled my fingers through the floating petals, she chimed in, “Mrs. Deborah Parker hates the idea of an affair. After this mess, Mr. Parker will definitely end things with his side piece!”–
I wasn’t so sure Hayden would be that compliant, and I was more curious about the change in Deborah’s attitude towards me. Just because of this! But Grandma never really liked me before…
“Deborah might be stern, but of course, she likes you. She often tells me to have the kitchen prepare your favorite dishes,” Rita said with a smile.
Some folks just weren’t good at wearing their hearts on their sleeves, even their caring was on the down–low.
“Is that so!” I was somewhat surprised, recalling that indeed, my favorite dishes had been showing up at meals lately. It turned out that it Deborah’s
‘s request.
“Don’t worry. Mr. Parker will figure this out eventually,” Rita said, continuing to comfort me.
This time. I didn’t say anything more, and I just stared blankly at the petals on the water.

I couldn’t care less what Hayden thought, but since Joanna and Sophia had set their sights on the cruise ship, there was no way I was going to let them have it
After my bath, I went to the study to find Haylen wearing a bathrobe.
As I approached the door, I could hear him on the phone, saying, “Yeah, I explain to Grandma. Don’t worry
His soft, coaxing tone was usually just for Joanna, and I’d moved past the heartbreak and the bitterness in my heart to a place of numbness now. Impatiently, 1 knocked on the door, not really wanting to hear him being lovey–dovey with another woman.
Hayden looked up at me, his eyes as unfathomable as an abyss. Then he quickly wrapped up his call.
I walked in and got straight to the paint, saying curtly, “I want the cruise ship”
The moment I said it, I was hit with memories of how Hayden used to be so icy with me, barely saying a word like talking was too much effort. Now, it looks like our roles were reversed.
Hayden’s eyebrows furrowed with a hint of coldness seeping through, as he said, “If you felt this way, why act so high and mighty before?” He mocked me without a trace of mercy.
Indeed. I rejected Xander so bluntly yesterday, and here I was, a day later, asking for the cruise ship. It did look a bit hypocritical.
But I didn’t care what he thought of me anymore, and I mimicked his sarcasm. TF1 wait any longer, you might just use the cruise ship to make other women happy”
Hayden’s expression clouded over, and the mood in the study took a dive. “Why’d you send Joanna away?” he demanded.
I could tell he was on Joanna’s side, and I wasn’t about to get into it “Grandma kicked them out, and you heard her reasons. I’m on thin ice myself.

Who am I to send away your precious Joanna?”
Deborah made valid points, but she didn’t get that Hayden and I were oil and water, with no future plans together, and I sure as hell wasn’t about to win his favor
“Nobody’s sending you anywhere. Hayden cut me off with irritation in his voice, as he handed me the documents about the cruise ship.
He was being direct, so I took the files without a second thought. As I turned to leave, he stopped me with a warning tone, “With this, you know “what’s expected.”
He wanted me to talk Jamie out of the lawsuit. I got the message, but I faced Hayden again. What if Jamie refuses to budge!”
I was genuinely curious about how Hayden would handle it when that happened. A lot of dark scenarios flashed through my mind.
However, Hayden replied with confidence. “He won’t.”
I was surprised. “You’re that sure?”
I’d seen Jamie and Nevin at each other’s throats. I wondered how Hayden could be so confident about it.
Hayden leaned back, his piercing gaze seeming to read my thoughts. “You persuaded him once, which means he doesn’t want to clash with the Parker family. He has vulnerabilities?
People with vulnerabilities were easy to manipulate, and I couldn’t dispute that, Jamie had his own business and a girlfriend on her way back; he
had too much to lose.
“Did you see this coming? I probed, still skeptical
Hayden sidestepped the question. “You got plans for tomorrow night
I raised an eyebrow. “Why do you a
“There’s a dinner party, and you’re my plus one,” Hayden said flatly.
I looked at him, baffled. “Why would you want me there? Take Joanna with you!” She’d be all over that, and I planned to have dinner with Marlon because we’d been putting off a collaboration.
Hayden’s eyes hardened as he stared me down. “Yvonne, how long are you going to keep this up!”
I’m not causing a scene. Im doing you a favor! Take her. I’ve got other plans!” I retorted. Then I walked out with a flourish. Bussiness was more important than Hayden. The man who once meant everything to me had silently faded into the background
That night, Hayden stayed out of the bedroom, and I was just fine with that. I went over the Jackson Group’s revenue reports for the past six months. Then I hit the hay when I got drowsy.
Half–asleep. I felt a chill and reached for the blanket. I usually didn’t loss and turn, but maybe I had kicked the blanket off. I felt around and found nothing, but then my hand touched something warm. Curious, I moved closer.
“So warm.” I mumbled, hugging the warm object tightly, not wanting to let go.
