Chapter 72
I was still in a dare, unable to process everything, until at some point, Dylan’s anxious voice broke through my fog.
“Yvonnet Yvonne, are you okay? Don’t scare me,” Dylan said, his voice filled with concern.
I looked at him, my eyes slightly red around the edges.
It was Dylan who had been hit, Dylan who was hurt, yet all he could think about was me,
He reminded me of the old me.
I used to be just like that, never caring about whether I was hungry or cold. I always focused entirely on Hayden
My:
silence only made Dylan more anxious. “Yvonne, I’ll take you to the hospital.
“No need…“I snapped out of my thoughts and quickly went to check his wounds. “How are you?”
Dylan froze for a moment, clearly surprised by my concern for him.
“I’m fine. It just hurts a little” he smiled, a bit shy but completely sincere.
Over the past year, I’d gotten so used to the harshness of this world and the coldness of human nature that I had nearly forgotten that there were still people out there as genuine as Dylan.
“Fine! You got hit with a bat so hard!” I gristed my teeth, glaring at the group that had attacked him. My voice was cold but firm. “In broad daylight, you think you can just beat someone up?
“You’ve got a death wish or what! Get ready to hear from my lawyer.
“What lawyer?” one of the thugs holding the bat shot back immediately. “You think I’m scared of that?”
I glared harder, my voice low and threatening, “Intentional assault can land you in jail for at least three years. Want to see how long you can sit behind bart?”
When the thug realized I knew the exact prison sentence, his expression shifted, and he began to panic. “What assault? It was an accident. What’s it to you? Are you still hanging around here! Want another taste of the but?
“Yvonne, just leave it Let’s go. Dylan whispered in my ear, his voice gentle but insistent
I realized that Dylan was still a student and probably didn’t want to get involved in any more trouble than necessary. So, I led them away,
There were too many of them and arguing any further wouldn’t do us any good.
After dropping Martin off at his home, I finally took Dylan to the hospital
“Yvonne, I’m really fine. Don’t worry about me” Dylan kept reassuring me on the way.
“How could you be fine after being hit with that heavy bat? Just wait for the check–up, 1 replied firmly. I wouldn’t be at ease until I saw his medical
report
In the end, Dylan couldn’t argue and obediently went along with the doctor for the check–up.
While I waited outside the examination room, my phone rang. It was Marlon
“Did you get beaten and end up in the hospital?” he asked right away, his tone full of unmasked concern and worry
I was taken aback. “How did you know!”
“This just happened. How could he possibly know! Does he have eyes in the mall too? I thought to myself
“Are you really hurt? Send me your address. Ill come over right now.” Marlon’s voice was tense, carrying an undeniable resolve.
I quickly explained. “It’s not me. It’s someone else who got hurt. I’m just bringing him to the hospital
“Are you sure?“!
el” Marlon asked again, sounding a bit doubtful.
“I’m sure. I don’t have a reason to lie to you,” I answered, reassuring him.

After a long pause, I finally heard a sigh of relief from the other end of the line.
“Glad to hear you’re fine. I’ll come by later to check on your Marlon said.
I was about to ask him why he wanted to see me when I saw Dylan walking out of the exam room. I quickly wrapped up the call.
“How’s it going?” I asked, walking toward him with concern in my voice.
Dylan had gotten hurt because of me. If anything was wrong with him, I’d feel guilty for the rest of my life.
I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt that much anymore,” Dylan said with a smile as soon as he saw me.
I knew he was just trying to put me at ease, and I wasn’t convinced. The last time I’d been pushed by Nevin and hit the corner of a table, my back had been bruised and painful for days. Dylan couldn’t possibly be fine.
“How did the doctor say?” I asked again.
Dylan opened his mouth, clearly about to respond, but before he could say anything, a nurse stepped out and called for the family members.
I quickly walked into the room, and the doctor, seeing me, sighed. Fortunately, the injury is just 0.3 inches away from the spine. If it had been any closer, he could have been paralyzed.”
My heart dropped
I hadn’t realized it was such a serious injury
I turned to look at Dylan standing in the doorway, and my eyes instantly welled up.
Seeing that I was about to cry, Dylan quickly waved his hand. Tm really fine. It’s not as bad as the doctor said. Don’t cry
The doctor just shook his head. “Make sure to take the medication on time and rest well. Don’t bend over or lift heavy objects for the next couple of days
After I got the prescription and we left the hospital, 1 was still supporting Dylan, careful not to let him walk too fast in case it caused him more pain.
“Do you want to rest for a bit! Talmost sounded like I was fussing over him.
Dylan smiled. “Yvonne, I’m really fine. How about i run to prove it to you?”
“Don’t you dare? The doctor told you to rest I quickly stopped him, glancing at the busy street outside before asking, “Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”
Dylan pouted. “It’s not proper for a girl to take a guy home, is it” He stubbornly refused to go home. Yvonne, I’m hungry. How about we grab something to eat first?”
He had taken a blow for me carber, so I should’ve treated him to a meal as a thank you.
I had been so focused on making sure he got home to rest that completely forgot about food.
“Alright, let’s go eat Lagreed with a nod
To make sure Dylan didn’t strain himself, I chose a nice restaurant, and the dishes we ordered were all meant to promote blood circulation, reduce swelling, and aid in recovery
When Dylan saw the table full of food, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Yvonne, why don’t you order a few dishes you like This spread is pretty much all medicinal cuisine.”
“It’s fine. Just eat more. Im not that hungry.” I answered without thinking.
Dylan’s smile faded for a moment, and he frowned at me. “How can you not be hungry! Did those guys scare you earlier?
“No” I shook my head and gave a wry smile. “Just the usual. Don’t worry. Ear up.”
As I said this, I served him a portion of soup.
Noticing his furrowed brow, I seized the opportunity to change the subject. “By the way, if those people were so aggressive, why does Mr. Zamora still insist on keeping the storet Did he try getting a lawyer involved?”
When I brought this up, Dylan sighed deeply. “Uncle Martin is a soft–spoken guy, and he really likes that store. When his wife was still alive, they 2./2

ran a small business together, and that’s how they were able to raise my cousin.
“I only found out about all this from my parents, so I came to see if there was anything I could do to help. But the rest. I don’t really know,
“The worst part is that insane company… How could they be stupid enough to rent the store to two people?”
“Mr. Robinson isn’t someone you want to mess with. If he’s got his eyes on something, you need to be extra careful. I warned.
“Yeah, I’ll make sure to warn Uncle Martin.” Dylan nodded. After sipping his soup for a while, he suddenly looked at me with a puzzled expression. “Wonne, how did you end up at that store?”
1 fm, my hand gripping my fork so tightly that my knuckles turned white.
He still didn’t know that the company was the Parker Group.
I hesitated, unsure whether I should tell him
