Chapter 89
I had really changed a lot, especially when it came to dealing with his matters.
In the silence, Joanna’s call came in.
The phone vibrated steadily on the table, but Hayden only gave it a brief glance, not planning to answer.
His suspicions about Joanna were growing stronger by the day.
Just then, an unexpected sharp pain flared up from his stomach injury. Hayden furrowed his brow in discomfort, and his mind involuntarily drifted back to the memory of me tending to his wound.

But when Joanna saw his in
injury, she was only frightened and unfamiliar,
The stark contrast in their reactions had already begun to make Hayden question what had happened while he was abroad.
The maid, who had just been lingering, had not left yet. Hayden lifted his gaze and asked, “Has Yvonne been home all year?”
Although Hayden had already sent Richard to investigate, it would take some time. The maid, however, knew where Yvonne had been.
The maid hesitated for a moment. She had been wondering whether Hayden would be angry, but she hadn’t expected him to ask such an unrelated
question.
She quickly regained her composure. “I believe Mrs. Parker left around April for a little more than half a month
She couldn’t recall the exact dates, only that it was sometime near the end of spring, before the weather got too
At that moment, Hayden’s heart seemed to stop beating.
“April? Wasn’t that exactly when I had the accident? Could it really be that coincidental? Did she, he thought.

After a long pause, Hayden managed to breathe again, his eyes now filled with desperate hope as he pressed. “Where did she go?”
The moment the question left his lips. Hayden felt as though his heart was being lifted by an invisible hand.
The maid thought for only three seconds, but for Hayden, those three seconds felt like an eternity
“She… I think she went back to her parents‘ houset” she said.
The maid’s answer shattered all of Hayden’s hopes in that instant
It was then that he realized, he had actually been hoping for the maid to say that I had gone abroad.
Only then would it be possible to prove that the one who took care of him was her
Forget it. She wouldn’t be so kind as to go abroad to take care of me, he wondered
Hayden sighed softly, cutting off those absurd thoughts in his head,
Why would I even entertain such expectations? How ridiculous, he thought to himself,
Seeing the change in Hayden’s expression, the maid quickly continued. “I heard that during that time, Mrs. Parker’s mother’s condition worsened, and she passed away.
“Mrs. Parker was heartbroken for a long time. She didn’t leave her bed for over half a month and barely ate. It was heartbreaking to see…
“She didn’t leave her bed for half a month? She was 17 Hayden furrowed his brow, pressing further. This was something he had never known.
“Mrs. Parker refused to see a doctor. It took her several days before she would eat even a litle bit. She looked so frail the maid recalled with a deep sigh.
Tage began to boil beneath Hayden’s gaze. “If she was in such a bad condition, why didn’t you tell me?”
He hadn’t heard a
a single things
thing about me while he was abroad.

The maid trembled in fear, her voice shaking as she spoke. “1… Im sorry, sir. It was Layla. She forbade us from telling you anything about what was happening at home… She thought it would upset you.”
Hayden’s eyes narrowed, the realization hitting him hard.
Even though his mother wasn’t in Elysiumville, she still had the power to control everything.
While he was abroad, he had wondered why he could not hear of anything about me. Now be understood. It was his mother’s doing
No wonder 1 hadn’t wanted to return to the Parker residence when they were downstairs earlier.
After a moment of contemplation, Hayden asked. “When did she come back?”
The Erst time Mrs. Parker left, it was for over half a month. Then she came back, but not long after, she left again for a few days,” the maid explained.
“She left twice?” Hayden’s eyes grew darker as a new realization began to form.
The maid nodded. “Yes”
She answered while wondering Mr. Parker never cared about Mrs. Parker before, Why is he suddenly so concerned about her now!
“Go ahead and leave, Hayden said.
The maid nodded and turned to leave the room.
The vast study was suddenly silent, and within moments. Hayden was alone.
The empty house made anyone who looked at it feel empty inside, too
The night breeze blowing through the window was getting colder by the day.
After what felt like an eternity, Hayden finally stood up, hands behind his back, and walked over to the window. He gazed out at the darkening sky.
“Yvonne, what exactly are you hiding from me?” he murmured to himself.

The next morning, I got up early, skipping breakfast as I rushed our the door.
Deborah was returning to the Parker residence today, and if I didn’t leave now, I’d be dragged back there with her.
I had no interest in those trivial matters at the moment. All I wanted was to focus on building my own career.
I didn’t go to the office this morning. I missed the cruise ship inspection yesterday, so today I had to go check on in.
By the time I arrived, Lucy was already waiting for me.
“Hi, Yvonne! Over here!” Lucy spotted me from a distance and waved enthusiastically.
I jogged over to her. “How do you always manage to get here so carly?
“Hey, I don’t have a job keeping me busy” Lucy said with a grin, linking her arm through mine and playfully leaning on me. Thank goodness you called me out today. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself
“You’re too relaxed. I’m kind of envious, actually,” I said with a smile.
Lucy’s parents were loving, she had a brother who adored her, her family business was thriving, and she was stunningly beautiful. She truly had a blessed life.
“Come on. Let’s go take a look at the cruise ship.” Lucy urged, tugging at my hand, eager to get going,
The cruise ship had docked two days ago, and it was currently undergoing repairs to prepare for the next round of guests.
When Xander had handed over the cruise ship to me, he’d already passed on the word. Now the staff on board knew I would be taking charge.
But they weren’t very cooperative.

“Hold on. Someone hasn’t arrived yet. I stopped her, not in a rush.

“Who?” Lucy peeked over her shoulder, curious.
1 squinted at the massive Pax Oceana in front of us, which looked like a castle. I spoke calmly. “Richard, Hayden’s assistant, I’m coming alone today.
“I’m not sure how the people here will react to me. They might not show any respect, so I need to bring one of Hayden’s people with me.”
Normally, Hayden would have been the one to bring me here for the handover.
First, because he was the heir to the Farker family.
Second, because I was his wife in name.
But I hadn’t asked him to come. I simply didn’t want to see him
Even Richard was more tolerable than Hayden.
“Okay” Lucy nodded, staying quiet and waiting with me. After a few moments, she added, “So, how are things going with Dylant
“What?” I pretended not to understand her implication.
“Don’t act dumb. You two have been seeing each other a lot lately, haven’t you?” she asked, her teasing tone clear.
Before Lury could finish, a black Lincoln drove up not far from us.
I squinted at the license plate, realizing it was Hayden’s car.
I was just starting to wonder if Richard had borrowed Hayden’s car when the door of the driver’s side opened, and out stepped Hayden himself.
“Why is he here?” Lucy asked, her voice full of shock, echoing the confusion 1 felt inside.
