After a pause, he continued, “There’s a party tonight. Come with me.”
Caleb always refused to attend public events with Evie. He never brought her to any official functions.
This time, he was inviting her to a party, which meant he wanted to make their relationship official in the public
eye.
Evie just scoffed. “And how will you introduce me? As your ex–wife?”
Caleb frowned. “Evie, I bought you a cake to make it up to you. What else do you want?”
His tone still sounded like he was lowering himself to appease her. Evie laughed and threw the cake he bought into the bin.
“I don’t like blueberry cakes anymore, Caleb Long, just like I don’t like you. I’m throwing you both away.”
Caleb froze. Evie did not give him another look, taking me to the car.
However, he did not give up after that. He sent all sorts of fancy gifts to Evie every day, showering her with jewelry and clothes. He never even gave her a present before, but now he was determined to make it all back.
Evie would refuse the gifts or hand them to our employees. Even our janitor received a LV handbag at one point.
Caleb also asked Evie’s parents to convince her into remarrying him. They only stopped when she lost it at them.
One night, I received a call from Evie while I was working overtime. She asked me to pick her up from a restaurant.
It turned out she had been having dinner with a male customer, but Caleb bumped into them and assumed she was on a date. He beat up the customer and destroyed his car in a jealous rage.
However, the car did not belong to the customer at all. It was mine, and I had just bought it the day before. Evie’s car was in the workshop, so she had taken mine.
When I reached the scene, I saw Julian there too. I looked at him expressionlessly before turning to Caleb.
“You had no right to beat up our customer! Also, that’s my car you ruined. You have to buy me a new one.”
Caleb looked at Evie with bloodshot eyes, as though he had not heard a word I said. “Evie Rimm, I forbid you from going out with another man!”
I had never seen him like that before. He must really love her.
Unfortunately for him, she had long since lost interest in him. She smirked. “You have no say over my life, Caleb Long. I can get married tomorrow for all you care!”
