Chapter 9
“From now on, we’re done.”
With that, I turned and walked away..
Tyler didn’t stop me.
Why would he? He’d achieved his goal.
That was fine by me. I never cared for his money, and being free from him felt like a gift.
I rented a house, and work was back on track as usual.
The divorce proceedings were smooth. Even my decision to leave without claiming a cent surprised my lawyer.
However, I didn’t explain. I was done with Tyler and the heartbreak he brought.
As soon as he stepped out of the courthouse, Tyler headed back in again. This time, to get his marriage certification with Mindy.
They didn’t even bother hiding it. Right before me, Tyler and Mindy flaunted their freshly signed marriage certificate, waving it in my face like a trophy.
This is what you wanted, isn’t it?” Tyler sneered. “Mindy and I are having our wedding ceremony tomorrow. Don’t forget to come.”
His deliberate mockery didn’t faze me. “Just don’t regret it later.”
Tyler snorted coldly. “Regret? The only thing I regret is wasting my time with you, you boring old hag.
“Come on, babe, we’ve got a honeymoon to catch.”
Grabbing Mindy’s hand, he strutted off.
Back at the hospital, 1 handed in my resignation.
My director looked stunned.
“Are you sure, Sarah? You’re the youngest lead surgeon in cur department. With five more years, you could take my place.”
I nodded, resolute. “I’ve thought it through. Please approve my resignation.”
Though he was surprised, he followed my wishes.
As I was leaving, he asked, “What will you do next?”
“I’m opening a flower shop,” I said without hesitation.
It was a promise I’d made to my unborn child–a vision of a flower–filled meadow we would explore together. I wasn’t going to break that promise.
My shop opened at a quaint little crossroads. The area was peaceful, not too crowded, and not too empty.
From the start, I didn’t expect it to thrive. In fact, I had already prepared myself for its eventual closure.
The shop sold no roses or flamboyant blooms, only lilles and daylilies in various varieties.
To my surprise, the shop flourished. Before I knew it, I was busy every day.

Sometimes, during quiet moments, I’d wonder if my child would have loved these flowers too.
Not long after, I heard the news that Tyler’s life had unraveled.
Mindy had cheated on him. Her ex–boyfriend had returned from abroad, and she was desperate to rekindle their relationship.
Tyler, however, refused to accept it. He exploded, making their drama public. He even threatened to release private videos of Mindy if she didn’t come back to him.
That was the final straw for Mindy’s father.
Tyler had always been punching above his weight, and now the powerful man made sure Tyler’s career was over.
The entertainment world turned on him. Scandals about Tyler flooded the internet, dragging his reputation through the mud.
It wasn’t long before he faced criminal charges. Someone accused him of assaulting underage girls. Tyler was arrested and sentenced to years in prison.
However, none of it mattered to me.
I paid no attention to the messy dramas of the entertainment industry that filled the internet. My days were now focused on running my flower shop.
Every morning, I placed a fresh lily outside the shop, watching it reach toward the sun.
It grew slowly, steadily, beautifully, just like my new life.
