The seawater stung my eyes, but I had no time to worry about that.
I dove deep, grabbing Linda as she thrashed wildly in the water, and struggled to swim upwards.
We burst to the surface, gasping for air.
The sea was rough. I tried to conserve energy, just keeping Linda and myself barely afloat.
After about five minutes, the waves had carried us far from the cliff.
In the distance, a small boat was heading our way.
“Hurry–gulp Hurry up!”
The person on the boat pulled us aboard. “Sis! Are you okay?”
I lay on the boat, panting heavily. “Damn it, what took you so long? I almost died!”
“Sis, wasn’t my alarm device great? Think we could sell it to the police?”
“Great my ass! It got stuck, I could barely press it!”
This annoying kid on the boat was my younger brother, due to take his college entrance exams in a few days.
If it weren’t for Anne’s kidnap, I’d never have let him come
Those exams are a big deal!
“Sis, who’s this woman?”
“The ex.”
“Stop asking questions and let’s go. What if someone comes after us?”
And so, my brother and I rowed the little boat away, huffing and puffing as we went.
Chapter 10
After telling my brother to relax for his exams and not to show his face if he did poorly, I boarded my flight with a
clear conscience
Before heading to Rodeland, I decided to make a detom to Japan.
The reason? Simple,
I’d been dying to visit a Japanese host club.
I’d been dreaming of those beautiful bodies.
The handsome host next to me was whispering something in Japanese.
I didn’t understand a word.
But who cares?
The highest form of human interaction doesn’t need words.
The top host offered me a grape. I bit it playfully, giving him a teasing smile.
“Lindsey! Man, this place is amazing! Did you see that guy with blue hair over there?”
“What a body! Wow-”
Linda plopped down on the stool next to me.
“His face isn’t nearly as good as Brad’s, though,” she commented, popping a grape in her mouth.
I glanced at the man she mentioned. “True.”
A face like Brad’s is one in a million.
Once–in–a–lifetime stuff.
If only he saw me as more than a stand–in, if he didn’t expect me to pamper him all the time.
And most importantly, if he didn’t freeze my credit cards every time he got upset.
Otherwise, I’d never have left him.
Thinking about this, I shot a reproachful look at Linda, who was busy ogling men and sticking to me like glue. “Hey! When are you going back to Brad?”
Linda looked puzzled. “Why would I go back?”
“Didn’t you love him, then find out he got a stand–in, so you came back to win him over?”
Linda sighed, “Of course I loved him. Who wouldn’t love that face?”
“Then why did you leave the country before?”
