I wiped my face and watched as Tyler returned, soaked, carrying a steaming bowl of soup. Since Mindy was
holding the baby, Tyler fed her, one bite at a time.
Smiling, I approached them and asked, “Is it good?
“If you like it so much, let’s finalize the divorce when we get back.”
I turned and headed back to the car. Tyler, realizing what I’d said, quickly dropped everything and chased after me.
“What are you making a fuss about now?
“Mindy hadn’t eaten and was holding the baby. I was just helping her.”
The self–righteous tone in his voice almost made me laugh
Shaking my head, I looked him in the eye and replied seriously, “I’m not making a fuss.”
Seeing my unyielding expression, Tyler finally snapped.
What do you want from me?!”
“I’m her brother! Isn’t it natural to take care of her? Stop twisting everything with your filthy mind.”

Chapter 5
I stayed calm as Tyler ranted.
I’d never understood why he refused to divorce me. However, I didn’t care anymore.
At that moment, Mindy noticed the tension and walked over with the baby.
As Tyler began to calm down, I tilted my chin towards Mindy. “You should go comfort your dear sister Mindy.”
Seeing that I seemed to have softened, Tyler’s face relaxed into its usual agreeable expression
“What’s going on, Tyler?”
“Nothing.” He shook his head and smiled.
Before long, the rain stopped, and we got back in the car.
Perhaps because of the earlier argument, the ride continued in awkward silence.
It wasn’t long before the baby started crying. Tyler had no choice but to stop at the next rest area.
While Mindy soothed the baby, Tyler stayed by her side the whole time.
Finally, Mindy turned to me. “Sarah, could you hold the baby for a moment? I just fed him, and I need to change.”
As a doctor, I understood immediately that she was likely dealing with engorgement. So, without saying much, I took the baby from her.
The little one was sweet and peaceful, already dozing off after eating. However, as Mindy handed the baby to me, I noticed something on her hand—a wedding ring.
The design felt eerily familiar. After a closer look, my heart clenched. It was identical to the one Tyler had given
- me.
On instinct, I reached into my bag, only to find it empty.
Noticing my gaze, Mindy glanced at her hand and smiled innocently. “Tyler gave this to me. What do you think, Sarah? Pretty, isn’t it?”
Her smile was sweet and childlike.
To me, though, it was anything but.
