Rachel waved her off. “This is for my precious grandbaby. No need to thank me.”
“You must be hungry after such a long drive. Come on in. Let’s eat!”
I stood there, rooted to the spot, watching as they all happily went inside.
Rachel hadn’t even glanced at me. Tyler, as usual, didn’t bother to acknowledge me either.
I saw Rachel usher Mindy to the dining table, personally serving her food with a warm smile.
No one even noticed I was still outside.
Biting back a bitter laugh, I set the gift bags gently on the ground, then turned and walked away.
“Wait, shouldn’t we wait for Sarah to come in?” Mindy called out suddenly, looking toward me as I lingered by the
door.
Only then did Rachel and Tyler seem to remember I existed. They opened their mouths to call me, but when they saw me walking off, Tyler stormed out after me, his face tight with anger.
“What the hell are you doing? Mom is calling you to come eat!”
“You’ve already started eating without me,” I replied coolly “What’s the point of calling me now?”
Tyler’s expression darkened instantly. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
Meanwhile, Rachel acted like she hadn’t noticed a thing, continuing her cheerful conversation with Mindy.
“You’ve just given birth. You need to eat more to keep yourself strong. Don’t be like… certain people, always making a fuss over nothing.”

Her pointed comment was clearly aimed at me.
1 could’ve ignored it, but she just had to push me.
“You old hag, you’re one to talk about gratitude. Let me remind you, if it weren’t for me, you’d have been six feet under by now.”
Rachel’s face paled at my words, and Tyler’s turned dark.
“Sarah, how dare you talk to my mom like that!”
“Why shouldn’t I?” I shot back, glaring at the three of them
“You think I forgot? That scar on my stomach was from saving her life! And now, what? All of you treat me like garbage.”
Seeing my anger, Rachel finally snapped. “Did I ask you to save me?” she yelled.
“Poor me! I’ve worked so hard taking care of you for nothing, and now I have to listen to your nonsense.”
Mindy stepped in, trying to play the peacemaker. “It’s not like that, Sarah. You’ve misunderstood.” “Misunderstood?” I laughed coldly. “Oh, you mean like how I misunderstood you having Tyler change your diaper? Or how I misunderstood you wearing the ring Tyler gave me?
“Come on, Mindy. If you’re going to play innocent, at least do a better job.”
“And as for you, old hag, my child’s death is on your hands. One day, I’ll make sure you pay for that.”
With that, Rachel exploded. “Tyler, are you just going to stand there? Look at what your precious wife is saying to your mother!”
Rachel’s dramatic tears only made Tyler angrier. His face was nearly purple as he stepped forward and slapped me hard across the face.
“That’s enough!” he roared. “When will you stop?! Apologize to Mom and Mindy now!”
