Leo didn’t shield Nina this time. Rotten eggs struck his head and body, one after another too.
“Scumbag! Traitor!”
“Sending your girlfriend to someone else? What’s wrong with you?!”
“A jerk like you deserves to rot!”
Leo stood still, neither dodging nor defending himself, enduring the humiliating barrage.
The three were taken to the police station and interrogated separately.
Caught off guard, they hadn’t coordinated their stories, and under professional questioning, nothing could be concealed.
The evidence against Nina and Wesley was irrefutable, leading to their immediate detention. Leo, having only been manipulated by Nina into making that one call to Tara, had no further involvement and was released.
As he was leaving, he encountered Nina and Wesley being escorted to the holding cells.
Nina broke free, collapsing at Leo’s feet, sobbing. “Leo, please save me! Everything I did was because I love you so much!”
Wesley chimed in, pleading, “Leo, cut me some slack!”
Leo kicked Nina aside and walked away without a word.
He had to find Tara.
Pulling out his phone, he dialed her number, but all he heard was a mechanical voice: “The number you have dialed is unavailable.”
A sense of dread gripped him. Panic surged as he frantically opened every messaging app, sending her a flurry of messages, only to realize he had been blocked everywhere.
Desperation mounting, he grabbed a cab to the villa. Pressing his thumb against the fingerprint lock, he heard the familiar “beep,” and the door clicked open.
Hope flickered in his chest.
If his fingerprint still worked, it meant Tara was waiting for him, right?
But as the door swung open, all he saw was an empty house.
He raced upstairs, throwing open every door.
Empty. Every single room.
On the third floor, it was the same. Aside from his own belongings, everything else was gone.
