Rachel’s gaze was dripping with mockery and disdain, almost like she found George laughable.
George was indeed capable. Before he became the heir of the Fox family, he had been an expert programmer. Back then, everyone had high hopes for Lauren, the Fox family’s former illegitimate child, but George had been determined to reclair everything that was rightfully his. To do so, he studied relentlessly.
So yes, he knew that this wasn’t something anyone could just pick up casually.
Seeing him stunned, Rachel smirked. “So you can’t do it, huh? Seems like I was right. Back when I liked you, I gave you so many filters–now that I don’t, you’re really just…”
She shook her head, her expression one of disgust, as if George were nothing more than garbage.
“You!” George opened his mouth to protest but froze when he saw Rachel calmly pull out her phone. She placed it flat on her hand and opened a program, her fingers flying over the screen as she began writing code at lightning speed. Within moments, she had broken into the entire estate’s security system.
George’s deep eyes narrowed as he stared at the code on her screen.
Rachel was unlocking the system.
If he wasn’t mistaken, she knew this stuff like the back of her hand. She was definitely a pro.
Rachel wasn’t hiding anything–breaking into this place was as simple as pie, she thought. Any hacker worth their salt could do this.
However, even though the code was simple, cracking the lock still took time.
After a solid half hour of trying, Rachel realized she still hadn’t broken through.
Suddenly, a thought struck her.
Bryant knew his daughter’s abilities well. He must have had someone reinforce the locks here.
Cursing Bryant from top to bottom in her head, she redoubled her efforts.
George watched from behind, captivated as Rachel cursed under her breath while deftly navigating the system.
Was a house lock really this difficult to crack?
Finally, with a soft click, the lock on the door gave way.
Rachel raised an eyebrow, relief washing over her. “Got it.”
She quickly pushed the door open and hurried out without a second thought.
“Rachel George called after her.
But Rachel didn’t even glance his way, let alone acknowledge him. She simply kept walking.
George jogged to catch up.
Kachel was so intent on finding Bryant and giving him a piece of her mind that she couldn’t care less about George. However, when they stepped outside, Rachel froze in shock

The hall was completely empty.
The entire estate had been shut down.
“Bryant! When I get back, I’m telling Grandpa everything!” she yelled, fists clenched in frustration.
It didn’t take much thinking to realize this was all Bryant’s doing.
At that very moment, Bryant was lounging in the back of a lavish stretch limousine, having kicked out all the guests. He w basking in the success of his little scheme when he suddenly felt a slight warmth in his ears.
George couldn’t make out exactly what Rachel had shouted, but when they stepped outside, he too was taken aback.
“Where is everyone? Why is it so quiet?” he asked, looking around in confusion.
“I have no idea,” Rachel snapped, visibly frustrated. With nowhere else to vent her anger, she turned it all on George.
George, now realizing that Rachel was truly angry, couldn’t help but marvel at this new side of her. Over the past three yea of their marriage, she had always been the calm, ever–smiling partner. But now, she was cursing him out with all her might Why?
“Why is it that whenever we meet, it’s like this?” she muttered under her breath, still fuming.
“Rachel, what does this have to do with me?” George replied, trying to defuse the tension.
“Well, I’m leaving now. And next time you see me, you’d better pretend we’re strangers. That’s the best thing you can do,” Rachel snapped, her words sharp as a knife.
“Strangers? Rachel, you’d like to pretend we never knew each other, but sorry to burst your bubble–we’re divorced, but you’re still my ex–wife. You can’t erase that,” George retorted, momentarily forgetting that it was he who had been the one trying to sever ties.
Rachel turned to face him, frowning. “Haven’t you heard the saying? The best exes are the ones who act like they’ve already died. What you’re doing right now–always popping up in front of me like some ghost–is basically just a resurrection.”
“You…” George was at a loss for words.
Rachel, meanwhile, had already pulled out her phone to hail a cab. But when she opened the app, she realized something that made her stomach sink. This estate was isolated, and when the Sarrattop Group had bought the land, they had chosen it for its unique, remote location.
And that meant no cabs could reach here.
“Are you kidding me?” Rachel groaned. “This is the worst luck I’ve ever had.”
George’s face darkened.
“Kachel,” he said, “I did ask for your opinion before we got married. Are you really playing the ‘I’ve been forced into this‘ card
now?”
Rachel spun around, furious. “Mr. Fox, your ability to read the room is truly something else. I’m not talking about you.” She had terrible luck with a father like Bryant, and now she was stuck dealing with this mess.
And honestly, Rachel continued, “you’re still stuck on the divorce? Shouldn’t we be focusing on how to get out of here first?”
George blinked, then realized with a jolt that their car was gone and their driver had disappeared too. He quickly pulled out his phone, dialing frantically. “What’s going on with Sarrattop Group? Why was the event canceled and our car sent away?”

But every call ended with no response.
Sighing in frustration, they both had no choice but to walk out of the estate on foot.
They cursed the entire way down the street before finally reaching a main road. After a while, a van pulled up.
George, his mood dark as thunder, barked, “Take us to the city.”
“Thirty–one people,” the van driver eyed them both, not even a hint of interest.
George didn’t have the cash for this.

Seeing Rachel barely holding back a laugh, he snapped. Irritated, he pulled off his Patek Philippe watch and threw it at the driver. “Here. Can we get in now?”
The weathered driver glanced at the watch, then tossed it back, disgusted. “Don’t try to fool me with this cheap knockoff. You think I can’t tell? That green dial? Plastic.”
George’s face went as dark as a storm cloud.
Rachel couldn’t take it anymore and burst into laughter.
The ever–pristine, untouchable George Fox, looking so disheveled and defeated–it was too much.
Suddenly, she found herself feeling a bit more sympathetic toward Bryant. That old man sure knew how to make people’s lives miserable.
Rachel looked up to find George glaring at her as if he could kill her with just a look. She covered her mouth, stifling her laughter, and said to the driver, “I’ll pay you.”
Without a second thought, she was the first to get in.
