It had to be Rachel’s luck—nothing else could explain it. How else could she possibly get a straight flush?
“Rachel, I’ve heard new players often have beginner’s luck, but poker isn’t just about luck. This time, I’m playing for real,” Callie said, forcing a smile to save face.
But Rachel didn’t even bother to respond. She just glanced at her for a moment before nonchalantly saying, “Let’s deal the cards.”
“Y… You…” Callie fumed, looking down at her hand. “This time, I’ve definitely got this in the bag. There’s no way she’ll get another straight flush.‘
“I think I’m going to win this one, but don’t get upset, we still have the next round,” Callie said, trying to sound confident as she revealed her cards.
When Braylen saw her hand–a full house–his eyes widened in surprise. Full houses were rare, especially with just a pair and a three of a kind.
But before Callie could bask in her smug victory, Rachel lazily placed her cards on the table.
Four aces stared up at them, and Callie’s face went completely pale.
“You cheated!” she shouted, forgetting all decorum as she pointed an accusatory finger at Rachel.
Rachel simply shrugged, her indifference stark in contrast to Callie’s fury. “If you can’t handle losing, just say so. There are so many cameras here–are you seriously accusing me of cheating?”
“Y… You…” Callie was seething, but Braylen, equally stunned, leaned in to examine Rachel’s hand. He couldn’t help muttering to himself, “This is… this is almost like… she’s the chosen one.”
Poker wasn’t all about luck, but luck still played a huge part. For Rachel to pull two miracle hands in a row? That was practically unheard of. If she wasn’t “the chosen one,” what else could it be?
Before Callie could say another word, Braylen grabbed Rachel’s hands, his excitement practically radiating from him. “Miss, is your luck always like this?”
Rachel was startled by the sudden contact, but seeing the almost childlike awe in Braylen’s eyes, she realized he wasn’t trying to take advantage; he was just overwhelmed by what he saw, like someone who’d spotted a mythical creature.
She didn’t pull her hands away immediately but instead gave him a polite, dry chuckle. “I guess I must’ve been cursed for eight generations, and now, after meeting a great man, all that bad luck’s finally gone. Now all that’s left is good fortune.”
Anyone not completely oblivious could tell that by “great man,” she was referring to George.
But Braylen was still wrapped up in the excitement, nodding as if it made perfect sense. “That makes sense. It’s true–after a period of extreme bad luck, great luck always follows.”
“Braylen!” Callie hissed, clearly furious.
Had he forgotten that he’d promised to help her deal with Rachel? Was he seriously going to let her get away with this?
Rachel glanced over, the faintest hint of amusement in her eyes. “Ms. Nunez, shouldn’t you be upholding your end of the
bet?”
Callie froze, staring at Rachel’s teasing smile, realizing only then that they’d bet on who would leave the room if they lost. She was the one who’d set the stakes–now she had no choice but to back out.

Panic surged through her as she turned to George, her face desperate. Help me.

But Rachel was already addressing him. “Mr. Fox, you heard that, right? Everyone knows the Fox family values integrity above all. I’m sure you’d agree that Ms. Nunez should fulfill her promise and leave the room.”
“Rachel.” Callie leapt to her feet. “You can’t possibly be that lucky. You’re cheating. You must be cheating!”
She spun toward Braylen. “Braylen, if you don’t believe me, get someone to investigate. There’s no way she could’ve gotten those cards without cheating.”
Herb, who’d been watching from the sidelines, stepped forward. “Mr. Fox,” he said coolly, turning to George. “I think you’d better keep an eye on your woman. This is the WSOP professional circuit. Are you sure it’s appropriate to accuse someone of cheating with all these cameras around?”
George’s expression darkened as he turned to Callie, whose face was flushed with anger. He reached out and grabbed her arm, his grip firm.
“Enough, Callie.”
“George…” Callie’s voice wavered as she looked up at him, hurt in her eyes. “You actually believe her?”
Rachel interrupted, her tone icy but composed. “How amusing. Just because I won, that means I’m cheating? Ms. Nunez, you were the one who suggested we play. You were the one who proposed the bet. Now that I’ve won, it’s suddenly cheating? Shouldn’t I leave only if you win? If that’s the case, you don’t need to play all these games.”
She casually took another sip of coffee. “By the way, this coffee’s really good.”
Callie’s face turned an even darker shade of red, but Braylen, awkwardly silent, shifted uncomfortably. He realized there was nothing more to say–Rachel was right. It was Callie who’d proposed the bet. There was no way to argue with that.
George glanced around the room before addressing Callie. “Callie, you should leave.”
“W… What…?” Callie’s face twisted in disbelief. She scanned the room, realizing she was completely alone in this. Nobody was on her side anymore. Her eyes narrowed with a venomous glare at Rachel, but she didn’t say another word. With a frustrated huff, she stormed out of the room.
Down below, the results of the game were finally in. As Rachel had predicted, Majestic Table Club was the first team to be eliminated.
Braylen looked over at Rachel. “It seems Ms. Sarratt has quite the deep understanding of poker.”
Rachel kept her calm, indifferent smile. “A bit of study, I suppose.”
Braylen’s eyes sparkled with admiration. “It seems there’s a reason Herb brought you here.”
Rachel chuckled quietly, but to herself, she thought: Who brought who here?
She didn’t elaborate. Instead, she said lightly, “Since the Sarrattop Group wants to work with you, it’s only natural they’d want to know your preferences.”
“I like being friends with straightforward people,” Braylen said with a grin.
George, who had been silently observing Rachel, felt something stir in him. He’d been watching her closely, trying to understand her game. She’d won, undeniably, with clear superiority. It was obvious she had some kind of skill–not just luck. Even if there was a hint of cheating, the fact that she’d been able to pull it off so flawlessly meant she was no ordinary player.
Callie, on the other hand, couldn’t see it.
Now, Rachel’s emotional intelligence was so high that even Braylen was chuckling, thoroughly charmed by her.
