Gracie sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Was that all just a performance for my benefit?”
Rachel scoffed. “A performance for you? Why don’t you go find him and see if he’ll put on a show for you? Maybe you’ll get lucky.”
“You… You’re just a pretty face. You pay him, and he’ll do whatever you want. That watch of his–what was it again? The Vacheron Constantin? I bet you bought that for him, right? Figures. The only thing you can buy is a little fun. I mean, what man would even spare you a second glance if you didn’t have money?”
Rachel shot back, her voice sharp, “You’ve got so much time on your hands, why not focus on your precious Rocco? See that woman over there? The one talking to him? She’s way prettier than you, and right now, she’s eyeing him like a hawk.”
“What?” Gracie’s head snapped to the side, her gaze zeroing in on the woman laughing and chatting with Rocco. Her face twisted in fury.
But for Gracie, the biggest threat would always be Rachel.
She turned back, her anger now mixed with smug satisfaction. “Oh, it’s just a partnership. That girl isn’t even Rocco’s type. Rocco told me himself. We’re the ones who’ve been through thick and thin together. He loves me, you know? He already got me a spot in the cast. Soon, I’ll be a star.”
She tossed her head, giving Rachel a smug little smirk.
Rachel couldn’t help but laugh. “Is that your big achievement? Getting a walk–on role just because Rocco pushed for it?” Gracie’s eyes narrowed, her voice sharp as she retorted, “Rachel, you’re just jealous. They picked me because I have the potential. My looks, my grace–I’ve got the star quality.”
At that moment, Gracie noticed the director, Danny Alston, staring intently in their direction.
She straightened up, tilting her head just so to emphasize her jawline, perfectly sculpted from her recent cosmetic work. Sure enough, the director stood up, his excitement palpable as he made his way toward them.
Gracie rushed to her feet, flashing a bright smile as she greeted him. “Mr. Danny Alston, hello. I’m the actress Rocco introduced today. Do you remember me? I’m Gracie.”
But to her surprise, Danny barely glanced at her. His eyes flicked over her for just a second before he muttered, “Oh, I know.”
Without another word, he walked right past her and straight to Rachel. His eyes gleamed as he looked her up and down. “Are you one of our actors?”
Rachel blinked in surprise. “Me? No, I’m not.”
Danny’s face fell. “No? What a shame.” But then, his expression brightened with a sudden idea. “But… Would you be interested in acting? We’ve got a guest role open right now. You could give it a try.”
shook her head in confusion, then waved her hand dismissively. “No, thank you. I’m not interested.”
Danny looked genuinely disappointed, but his determination didn’t waver. “Are you sure? Think about it–being an actor, a star… So many people dream of it. Why not give it a shot?”
Rachel glanced over at Gracie, who was now fuming. With a sarcastic grin, Rachel said, “Some people don’t have much going for them, so they have to settle for being eye candy. I’ve got a lot of things to do, and being a star wouldn’t give me any sense of fulfillment.”
Gracie’s face reddened with embarrassment as she glared at Rachel, her fists clenched in fury.

In her mind, Gracie was thinking, Is Danny blind? How could he want Rachel for a guest role?”
But Danny didn’t listen to her. His hand suddenly shot out, grabbing Rachel’s arm.
Rachel froze, startled.
Before she could pull away, Danny’s grip tightened, and he practically started wailing. “You have no idea how hard this is, do you? Shooting a movie, picking the right actors…. It’s a nightmare! There are hundreds of applicants for every role, but none of them fit! Finding someone who actually works is almost impossible.
“But you… you’re exactly what we need. If you don’t agree to this, we can’t shoot today. I’m telling you, this film might be dead in the water. I was brought in at the last minute, and now I’m stuck with no actors… You’ve seen the news, right? Our third lead was just replaced because of a scandal! We can’t find anyone else. Please, I’m begging you!”
Rachel was shocked. They want me to replace the actress who was just fired because of a scandal?”
I’m not an actor,” Rachel said slowly. “I can’t act.”
Danny, undeterred, shook his head. “Who cares? Have you seen the young idols these days? None of them are professional actors, yet they act like they own the place. And this role doesn’t have many lines—just a few scenes, really. You’d mostly be a background character. You’re perfect for it. Please, just help us out!”
Rachel sighed, glancing at Gracie’s miserable expression as she walked by. A small part of her felt a little satisfaction. Fine, I’ll do it. I’ll shoot the scene and annoy Gracie while I’m at it. Plus, it’s my responsibility since they’re replacing the actress because of me.
Reluctantly, she agreed. “Okay, I’ll do the scene today.”
Danny’s face lit up. “Yes! Just today, it won’t take long.”
Rachel finally agreed, but Danny was practically glued to her side, too afraid to let go, as if the opportunity might fly away at any second. He dragged her straight to the stylist.
Rachel, completely bewildered, was just going along with it. But as they passed by Gracie, she caught sight of Gracie’s sour expression, and a tiny, mischievous spark of satisfaction flickered in her chest.
Let them film it. If anything, it would be the perfect chance to rub it in Gracie’s face. Plus, the role change happened because of her, so it was only right to step in and lend a hand.
Besides, as Danny had said, she was just there to be a background character anyway.
Meanwhile, Danny, after a quick glance at Rachel, seemed almost too eager.
“Danny, are you sure about this? This lady doesn’t seem like an actress,” the assistant director asked with hesitation.
Danny smiled knowingly. “With a face like hers, how could she not be born to act? Look at her–this is a star in the making!” “But we’ve heard she’s connected to the Sarrattop Group. Are they really going to let her act?”
Danny paused, taken aback for a moment, before shaking his head. “Guess that means it’s unlikely. What a shame… She could’ve really gone far with that look. Give it time, and she would’ve been huge.”
Danny’s sincere praise didn’t go unnoticed. Over by the set, George, who had overheard everything, felt a sense of unease
settle in his chest.
“Come to think of it,” Mortimer said thoughtfully, “Danny’s right. Rachel is stunning. I used to think she looked like Callie, but now… she’s starting to look less like her. What’s going on there?”
