Chapter 57
“George, I’m here!” Callie called out, her voice filled with urgency.

George spotted her, but to her surprise, his gaze only lingered on her for a mere two seconds before swiftly shifting to the elderly man standing off to the side. His eyes darkened with a deeper, more complex expression.
Callie was confused, watching as George picked up his pace and walked over to her.

Before he could speak, Callie rushed forward, grabbing his arm in desperation. “George…” she said, almost throwing herself at him. “That old man who humiliated me earlier–he was sent by Rachel!”
George frowned slightly. He quickly placed a hand on her arm to stop her. “Callie, what are you talking about?”
“I’m not lying!” Callie said, hurriedly pulling out her phone. “Look, I just filmed this. Rachel was talking to him, and they were acting so familiar. Look at this…”
George watched the video. In it, Rachel and the elderly man were indeed talking, though it didn’t seem overtly intimate- just familiar. Still, it was clear they knew each other.
Callie smirked, seeing George’s expression shift after watching the video. This was her chance! With this evidence, George would definitely put those two in their place.
But just as she was about to bask in her small victory, George did the unthinkable. He looked up at the old man, but what he said next left her stunned.
“Mr. Sarratt, Callie is just upset and said some inappropriate things. I hope you won’t take offense,” George said, his voice full of deference.
Callie’s face felt, her confidence crumbling.
Bryant, still with his hands behind his back, heard George’s words and gave a knowing smirk. He glanced at Callie with a mix of amusement and superiority.
It was clear–George knew who he was now.
But that formality in George’s tone… it felt off, almost grating to Callie’s ears.
Bryant scoffed. “There’s no need to be so formal, George. We have no ties to the Fox family.”
Yet George remained composed, his humility unshaken. “Not at all. In terms of seniority, Bryant is an elder, and I should show respect.”
Rachel, silently watching, couldn’t help but roll her eyes internally. ‘Yeah, according to the hierarchy, George should be calling Bryant ‘father–in–law”
Callie, still in shock, stammered, “George, this is…?”
George’s tone became more serious as he addressed her, “Callie, apologize. This is Bryant from the Sarrattop Group.”
Callie’s jaw dropped. Bryant from the Sarrattop Group… she thought, her mind racing.
“Wait, you must be mistaken,” she said, disbelief written across her face. The man looked like he was dressed in bargain–bin clothes, how could he possibly be a top executive?
George gave her a reproachful look, his voice tinged with annoyance. “The president of Sarrattop Group is Mr. Sarratt.”
It took a moment for Callie to process the shock. “The Sarrattop Group… the actual family behind it?‘ She froze, staring at

This man wasn’t just some minor executive–he was a member of the Sarratt family, the ones who owned the whole Sarrattop Group!
The realization hit her like a thunderclap. ‘How could I have been so careless?”
“Sorry…” she stammered, panic creeping into her voice. “Mr. Sarratt, I didn’t mean it… please forgive me.”
“Enough,” Bryant snapped, his face now a mask of anger. “You’re not worthy of calling me that.”
Callie’s face turned crimson, humiliated by his harsh words.
George watched, his expression unreadable. While Bryant’s response had been too harsh, Callie was in the wrong, and George had no grounds to defend her. All he could do was watch as she absorbed the verbal blow.
Callie’s face tightened in frustration, but she quickly lifted her head and continued apologizing. “I’m sorry, Mr. Sarratt. I didn’t know who you were. I saw you with Rachel and… you don’t know, Rachel has done nothing but slander me since I got with George. When I saw you talking to her, I got upset and said something wrong.”
Rachel, listening to this, could hardly believe her ears. ‘How bold of her… Rachel thought, her eyes narrowing as she stared at Callie.
Bryant’s face darkened even more, his expression shifting from irritation to disgust.
“From what I know of Rachel, if she’s targeting you, there’s likely a reason,” he said, his tone dripping with disdain.
Callie was struck dumb, the words hitting her like a physical blow. ‘He actually believes Rachel?‘
George could already sense where this was going. If Callie kept talking, she’d only dig herself into a deeper hole. Bryant was clearly already disgusted by her.
“Callie,” George said, his voice now cold and firm. “Enough. Go take a rest.”
Callie froze, her mind racing. Looking at George’s face, she was taken aback by the sharpness in his expression. For the first time, she felt a flicker of fear, as if George had suddenly turned on her.
‘George… is angry with me?‘
She quickly lowered her gaze, glancing once more at Rachel and Bryant, and without saying another word, she hurriedly left, her steps quick and hurried.
Once she was gone, George turned to Bryant, his tone apologetic. “I’m sorry, Mr. Sarratt. It’s my fault for not keeping a better eye on the people around me. As for our partnership with Sarrattop Group, I’m willing to increase my investment by an additional twenty percent. I hope this helps push our project forward.”
Bryant, though inwardly dismissive of the extra investment, looked over at Rachel. His daughter was passionate about business, and if this investment would benefit her career, then he would take it, even if it was small change to him.
George let out a breath of relief. This investment was meant to secure a closer relationship with the Sarrattop Group, and he’d almost lost it all because of Callie’s reckless behavior. But now, with Bryant accepting the investment, the deal was still
on track.
Callie, standing at a distance, watched as George continued to converse with Bryant, feeling a sharp sting in her chest. She had been pushed out, left to watch from the sidelines as everyone else moved forward.
‘How did Rachel even know Bryant? she wondered, her thoughts racing. They both have the same last name, Sarratt… could they be related?‘

But then, she shook her head. ‘No, that’s impossible. The Sarratt name isn’t that uncommon. But if Rachel did have some connection to Bryant, why has she been so weak these past three years?‘

Callie’s mind shifted to Sybil. She remembered how Sybil had always shown an interest in Herb. ‘Why hasn’t Sybil made any moves yet?‘ she wondered, frustrated by the uncertainty.
