Chapter 13
“George, are you crazy! Spying on your ex–wife?
“So you admit it”
She doesn’t deny it. He thought. “Is she really flirting with a married old man like Ahmad?
Ill warn you. Rachel Ahmad’s wife is a notorious person. Watch yourself. If you provoke her, it might cost you more than you bargained for.
George uid.
Rachel thought. So that’s what this is about.
Rachel quickly figured out a way to turn the tables on Ahmad. She thought, I will send those photos of him with his arms full of women to his wife.
pronto
“Thanks for the heads–up. You’ve really been a big help? Rachel said, sounding genuinely appreciative.
On the other end, George couldn’t stand it any longer and slammed the phone down.
Herb raised an eyebrow, watching Rachel with curiosity. “Looks like your ex–husband has the wrong idea about you.”
Rachel shrugged, unbothered. “He never understood me in the first place, so how could he have the wrong idea about me?”
Herb gave a small nod, agreeing with her assessment.
As if nothing had happened, Rachel picked up her phone again. found Ahmad’s wife Ollie Carter, edited the photos, sent them off, and then casually made her way to the car.
Meanwhile. George was in no mood to deal with anyone. He slammed his phone down again, frustration boiling over
“George! My brand–new phone!” Mortimer groaned, clutching his own phone in pain as he glared at him.
But George seemed oblivious, his face dark, lost in his own thoughts, as if no one else existed in the room.
“Didn’t you promise Rachel you’d give her 100 million dollars Mortimer asked cautiously, his voice low, almost hesitant.
“No” George snapped. He thought, ‘She wants to use money to seduce old men? No way!”
“Look, I’m not defending her, but Rachel had a pretty cushy life with the Fox family. Now that she’s out of it, of course, she’s going to
o feel a little
resentful.
“Wanting money makes sense, in a way. Besides, you chose her–someone who was never really a match for you. That marriage was always doomed from the start.”
George froze, the words hitting him harder than he expected. His mind wandered back to the first time he had seen Rachel
She had been crouched on the side of the road, looking like a child abandoned by the world. Her thin frame was shaking from the cold, but those dark, defiant eyes were locked onto his, lips pressed tight, refusing to speak.
Sure, he had taken her in because she resembled Callie. But those eyes–there was something in them that drew him in, something beyond just her appearance. Now, he was starting to question whether he had ever truly understood Rachel
“George.” Callie’s voice cut through his thoughts as she appeared at the door.
