Chapter 17
“Wait a minute. Rachel wasn’t sure how she ended up leaving the hospital.
In that moment, as the needle was coming toward her, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of reluctance. Especially with that sharp pain in her
abdomen.
“Are you scared! Do you two want to be born! Don’t you want to just disappear like this?” Rachel mused.
She thought, Screw it… It’s not like I can’t take care of you. Even if you don’t have a father, I’ll love you like crazy. It’s just how the hell am I gonna explain this to Manin? The thought alone made her head spl
At that moment, she saw a message from George. You promised Grandpa you’d come to his birthday banquer. I’ve transferred 300 thousand dollars to you for his gilt.]
She thought, Does he think I can’t afford a decent gift? She immediately refunded the money.
Rachel: [I won’t take money that’s not mine. I’ll cover the gift myself. My gesture doesn’t need to come through anyone else’s hands. You just focus ⠀⠀⠀ on preparing your 100 million dollars breakup fee.)

“Ms. Sarrant.” Herb greeted her. “That Yvette–she’s already been pushing for the charity gala. She’s been holding meetings with the staff all morning to discuss it. I’m starting to think there’s something shady going on with this event.”
Yesterday, Rachel had met Yvette, who had shown clear disdain for her. It was obvious that Yvette was trying to stir things up. Too bad for her, Rachel wasn’t as easy to manipulate as she thought.
“She’s just a twenty–something girl. What could she possibly do to me? Rachel walked into the room without a second thought
“Ms Sarran.” Yvette, dressed in a sharp professional outfit, stood up as soon as she saw her. After greeting Rachel, she turned to Herb, flashing a slight almost shy smile before lowering her head.
Rachel caught the subtle shift in her behavior. She glanced at Herb, who–whether in appearance or figure–was stunning in his own right. A small smile tugged at Rachel’s lips. Herb’s still the center of attention, as usual.
“Ms. Sarratt, I’ve prepared a proposal for the charity gala. Feel free to take a look and let me know if you have any concerns,” Yvette said.
As soon as Yvette looked up at Rachel, her demeanor completely shifted. She suddenly acted as if she were in charge here and Rachel was rooke employce.

Rachel raised an eyebrow, took the proposal, and quickly skimmed through it. She frowned. “Did you invite every wealthy family in Burenheim Giry?
“Yeah. Ms. Sarratt, Is there a problem?” Yvette asked casually.
“I think it’s a bit over the top, Rachel said flatly,
Yvette, however, wasn’t fazed. “Ms. Sarratt, I heard you’ve just returned from abroad, so you might not understand. Here, it’s all about personal connections. The more people you know, the stronger your network.
“Since we’re in Hurenheim City, it’s only natural we need to build relationships with the local elite. There’s nothing wrong with inviting them all, right, Mr. Howse?” Shur shot a sweet smile at Herb.
Herbs didn’t hesitate for a second. “I think Ms. Sarratt’s concerns are very valid.

As the meeting adjourned, Yvette left without saying another word,
Rachel clicked her tongue and looked at Herb. “People already have issues with me, and now they’ll probably have even more.”
Herb, not fully understanding, asked, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing” Rachel replied casually, not wanting to explain further. As she walked husle, she added, “Ahmad stepped down and left this mess for the company. Does he really think he ran sidelinor me like this?

Rachel nodded. She understood what Herb meant. Yvette, a master’s graduate in economics from Burenheim City University, was highly self- assured.
To her. Rachel was probably just a privileged heir who studied abroad, got a degree, and was coming home to inherit the family business. No wonder she looked down on Rachel
After all, they both knew Yvette’s brothers–one worked in the art world, another in the entertainment industry–but none of them had any interest in seriously taking over Sarrattop Group. Well, let’s see how she plans to sideline me, Rachel thought.
“By the way. I need to buy a gift for Sigmund’s birthday,” Rachel said, changing the subject.
Herb hesitated. “You’re really going to the Fox family’s birthday party?”
“I promised Sigmund, Rachel said with a reassuring smile. Tll just drop off the gift and leave right after.”
“Alright.” Herb replied, albeit reluctantly.
Back at home. Rachel paused for a moment before telling the housekeeper to have the chef’s start preparing nutritious meals for her. Now that she had decided to keep the baby, she needed to take extra care,
Carrying twins required even more attention to nutrition and self–care, and she couldn’t afford to make any mistakes in that regard.
A little while later, the housekeeper entered respectfully. “Ms. Sarratt, Mr. Sarratt bought some new clothes and daily necessities for you. Would you like to take a look?”
Rachel nodded. A line of elegant dresses was brought in, followed by a collection of the season’s newest handbags. Finally, several boxes of jewelry were delivered. Rachel felt a headache coming on.
Martin always did this–shoving luxury after luxury her way. But with so many clothes and bags, she wondered, ‘How am I supposed to use them

Just put everything inside,” she said, waving her hand dismissively.
She casually selected a tassel–adorned gown and paired it with a clutch to wear to Sigmund’s birthday banquet.
The day of the banquet came quickly. Rachel packed the carefully chosen gift for Sigmund and headed to the Fox family’s mansion.
The guest list was small–mainly family–since Sigmund preferred a quieter celebration, and he wasn’t fond of big parties. Not many people were expected.
When Rachel arrived and got out of the car, her eyes immediately landed on Willa, who was greeting guests at the door.
To her surprise, standing next to her was Callie, Given Sigmund’s strong dislike for Callie, it was bold of Willa to bring her here.
“Rachel, how dare you show up here?” Callie sneered
