the night of the charity gala, Rachel was all dressed up and first headed to the office.
As soon as Yvette saw Herb, he walked over with a smile, greeting her warmly, “Mr. Rowse, you’ve arrived:
/people here?”
Herb didn’t think much of it and glanced around. “Didn’t we agree to scale back the guest list? Why are there so many Yvette’s eyes flickered for a moment, but he kept his smile and replied, “Well, the invitations I sent out weren’t this many. But I guess word around that Sarrattop Group was hosting a gala, and a lot of people came uninvited.
“Now that they’re here, it would be a bit awkward to just ask them to leave, don’t you think?”
rb frowned and surveyed the crowd outside
Herb
Herb, the heir of the Rowse family, had deep ties with Sarrattop Group, being the assistant to Martin to
for years.
No one in the company treated him like an ordinary assistant; everyone knew his background and treated him with the utmost respect. His status set him apart from others
Herb, in his twenties, was exceptionally capable. After a few years of studying here, he was expected to return to the Rowse family and likely take over the business
With his sharp features and confident air, he stood out among the crowd, different from the typical pretty faces
Yvette couldn’t help but stare at him, captivated. But just then, she heard the sound of Rachel arriving.
“Ms Sarratt is here.”
Everyone timed to look.
Yvette noticed that Herb, who had been stoic moments before, immediately brightened up into a smile when he heard Rachel’s arrival. Herb turned and walked toward her, clearly eager to greet her Yvette was so irritated that she stamped her foot
Rachel was wearing a mint green dress, and her sharp shoulders gave her a look of both elegance and authority, making her appear small but commanding.
Without a glance to the side, she looked brielly outside and then said to Yvette, “Seems like Ms. Carter really likes to be in the spotlight, doesn’t she?”
With that, she walked straight in.
Everyone quickly followed her, walking out behind Rachel.
Yvette clenched her teeth. She thought, Rachel is only here because she carries the Sarratt family heiress’s title. Without that status, she’d be nothing. If it weren’t for her family connections, she wouldn’t be getting this kind of attention.
She’d heard all sorts of things about the Sarrant family–they were nothing but showoffs. The people in the cultural artifact scene were mostly pretentious, and those in the entertainment industry were just as bad. None of them were worth much.
Yvette thought, “Rachel thinks she can rise above all this! But Herb is protecting her, so it seems unlikely she’d mess up anytime soon. But what if Herbs grows disillusioned with her? That can change everything”
A sly, calculating look appeared on Yvette’s face as she thought of something
As soon as Rachel entered, she overheard someone say, “Ma. Sarratt, Lauren is here. He’s outside and would like to meet with you
Rachel thought, Lauren Her expression shifted slightly, but she responded coolly. “Tell him I’m not meeting with him.”
She had already warned him that Sarrattop Group wouldn’t be working with the Fox family, but it seemed he hadn’t gotten the message.
Hehind her, Herb frowned. “Lauren is here. George won’t just let it will be?
Rachel shrugged nonchalantly. “Let him come if he wants. I’m not afraid of him.” “Alright”
Seeing that Rachel wasn’t
wasn’t even trying to hide her intentions, Herb quickly understood her stance.
Group, the very person they has been looking for and investigating-
Herb thought, ‘But if George found out that Rachel is the heir to Sarrattop Group, well, that would certainly make things interesting:
Rachel glanced around the entire banquet hall. She had her things taken away to be donated and was just in time to ice Yvette walking toward her.

holding a wine glass.
“Ms. Sarratt, I know this is my fault. I didn’t expect these people to show up uninvited. I hope you can forgive me,” Yvette said with a polite. apologetic smile.
Rachel could tell Yvette was being deliberate. She gave a small smile and replied, “It’s alright, Mc Carter. It’s understandable if you’re still getting the hang of things and things didn’t go as planned. Next time, if you’re unsure, just ask for some advice”
Yvette froze. She thought, What does she mean by getting the hang of things? Who says I lack experience?
And now, in front of all these people, with just a few words, Rachel had turned Yvette’s obvious attempt to make her lose face into a lesson about her own inexperience.
Yvette cursed herself silently. She had acted impulsively and said the wrong thing, giving Rachel the perfect chance to put her down. But, glancing at the wine glass in her hand, she bit her tongue. She’d get her revenge later.
“This wine.” Yvette continued. “I specially brought it from my father’s collection. It’s a 50–year–old vintage from the Sali Vineyard in Beusea. You can’t find it anywhere else.”
Rachel thought, “Wine? She glanced at the wine glass the waiter handed her. Tm allergic to alcohol,” she said, turning it down immediately.
Yvette was taken aback. “Ms. Sarratt… do you have an issue with me? I asked Martin about you, and he never mentioned you being allergic to alcohol. Is it that you just don’t want to drink my wine?”
Rachel thought, “What kind of nonsense is Martin spreading? How can he just say things like that? Rachel glanced at her flat stomach. ‘It’s true. I really can’t drink!
“I’m not sure where you heard that, but you’ve got the wrong information. I really can’t drink.”
r good
Herb looked confused, thinking, Since when has Rachel become so stubborn! Is she really turning down alcohol for
But since Rachel had made up her mind, Herb decided to back her up. “Ms. Carter, Ms. Sarratt is not feeling well.”
Yvette felt even more uneasy. It was obvious Rachel was purposely refusing her wine. And now Herb was backing her up too.
“Alright, then, let’s drink coffee instead, Yvette said, reluctantly picking up a cup of coffee and taking a sip.
Rachel eyed the coffee cup. “Fine.” At this point, she couldn’t refuse without causing a
a scene
She took a small sip, and Yvette, with a stiff face, finished the formalities and left.
Rachel watched her walk away, then heard Herb’s voice from beside her. “You actually drank what she gave you?”
you… you should be more careful when you’re around her. Whatever she offers
Rachel Laughed. “I didn’t mind drinking what she offered, but as for yo you, it’s probably best to steer clear.”
She raised an eyebrow and casually wiped the coffee off her sleeve. She didn’t even drink it.
Herb, dearly surprised, hurried after her. “What do you mean by that!”
Rachel
shook her head with a chuckle. “Herb, the reason you’ve never had a woman around you all these years is pretty obvious.
Rachel thought, “This guy really is dumb.
Herb looked at her, a weird expression on his face, but Rachel was already walking away.
Behind her, Yvette, her face full of cold amusement, watched them leave. She thought. ‘She thinks just because she didn’t drink my wine. everything’s fine? I’ve been in Burenheirn City for years, and it’s not by accident
Just as Rachel took a step forward, a voice suddenly came from behind.
“Rach
