Chapter 7
George’s confused and disappointed stare burned through Callie, sending a chill right to her core.
“George, she really stole it… Callie quickly put on her most helpless, innocent act, clutching at George’s sleeve, looking completely wronged
Hat when George took a closer look, his eyes narrowed. “Callie, this isn’t from the Fox family”
Callic could hardly believe her ears. “How… how is that even possible?”
Callie thought. If it’s not from the Fox family, then how the hell could Rachel afford something like this?
mocking smile.
Rachel nonchalantly adjusted her dress, locking eyes with George, her lips curling into a mod
“I was actually kinda touched by how Mr. Fox feels about you, but now I see, Mr. Fox, your taste in women is something else. Rachel said, the sarcasm dripping off her words.
George felt his blood start to boil. He though, What the hell is Rachel even on about? Her tone was like gasoline on a fire, stoking his anger

The mocking look in his eyes made Rachel feel oddly deflated
“Alright, enough. Everyone has their blind spots. You can just pretend I went through a tribulation, if you like.” Rachel turned back, casting a cold glance at George as he hurried out. She let out a disdainful snort.
Callie was just faking it, and yer George was losing his mind over it. Looking back, Rachel realized she’d made some seriously bad choices, thinking George was her guy
The Sarrattop Group’s banquet had barely begun, and already it was buzzing with gossip. Even though George had left a while ago, people were still ulking about what happened.

Callie knew she’d made a total mess of things tonight. But what she couldn’t wrap her head around was how someone like
could’ve caught Herb’s eye.
Callie thought, She’s probably here just to get back at me!”
“How is she?” George’s mood seemed to be getting worse by the second.
The doctor hesitated before speaking softly, careful not to say too much. “Ms. Nunez is fine. It’s just some stress from the pregnancy. She’ll be alright after some rest.”
George rubbed his forehead and only then noticed that Callie had opened
Lopened her eyes.
“George, I’m so sorry… Did I cause trouble! I saw her walk straight over to Herb, and I just felt so angry for you. I couldn’t help it… You two were married, and the suddenly turned so heartless. I couldn’t stand it,” Callie said.
As he heard her words, George’s chest tightened. But after a moment’s pause, he took a deep breath and said, “Callie, you were too rash tonight” George had never seen

Callie’s eyes filled with tears, and she looked up at over the place now dut I’m pregnant.
“Alright” George lowered his gaze. “Just focus on resting and try not to overthink things”
It was his fault Callie was pregnant. He’d been too drunk when it happened, and by the time he woke up, everything had already taken place.
Though he couldn’t remember any of now that she was pregnant, he was determined to take responsibility for it.

“Just focus on the pregnancy. You don’t need to worry about this,” he said, his voice tight.
As he stormed off, clearly pissed off, Callie clenched her teeths, cursing him silently. “Rachel, you think you can top me? No matter what you do, George is only gonna get more disgusted with your
Meanwhile. Rachel stepped into the private room where Martin had been waiting for her.
“Rachel, you’re just in time. Martin said with a warm smile. “The whole Sarrattop Group team is here today. Let me introduce you.
This is my granddaughter. Rachel. Starting today, she’ll be the one and only heir to the Sarratt family and the new CEO of Sarrattop Group”
The room went quiet as everyone stood up. They’d never even heard of another granddaughter in the Sarratt family, especially one who had Martin backing her so damn hard.
And then, to their shock, she was being shoved straight into the CEO role. A lot of them clearly weren’t happy about it–a young, beautiful woman in charge of a huge company–but no one dared say a word in front of Martin.
Rachel glanced at Martin, who was grinning like he’d won the lottery. She thought, ‘So this is the surprise” he had in store for me. He knows damn well I don’t want this position, but he’s still shoving me into it anyway!
Martin beamed and took her hand. “Rachel, the Sarratt family’s future depends on you now. My health’s only getting worse, so don’t let us down.”
Rachel thought to herself, ‘What am I gonna do? I’m stuck with it now”

“And don’t worry,” Martin added, “Herb will be here to help you. But honestly, with y
Herb, standing off to the side, gave a little smile. “Exactly. As long as she doesn’t make my life hell, that’s: I’m hoping for.”
Rachel thought, “Looks like these two have already got everything figured out behind the scenes. But…
She absentmindedly rubbed her stomach. I’m about to take over Sarrattop Group, but what about the baby?
Back at George’s side, the news came o
quickly.
“You left the Sarrattop Group banquet early tonight. I heard they appointed a new CEO, Mortimer Sherman remarked.
George clenched his jaw, the frustration still burning inside him. “Who’s the new CEO?
“Their info is tightly guarded, so it’s hard to say for sure, Mortimer replied. “But there’s speculation it could be the future heir of the company. One thing’s clear, though: Herb is definitely going to be the VP”
George thought, ‘Herb… The image of Rachel standing next to Herb earlier flashed through George’s mind. The two of them had looked so well- matched, and his brows instantly furrowed with frustration.
“Find a way to get their new CEO to meet with me,” he ordered coldly.
