Chapter 9
“Go ahead. Kill me right here if you dare.”
Nicholas stormed out of his car, gripping the edge of the door, his expression caught between shock and fury.
In the reflection of his pupils, I caught a glimpse of myself hair disheveled, body battered and bruised, a complete mess.
And yet, my bloodstained dress billowed in the wind, flaring like a battle flag.
“What’s wrong? You can’t do it?”
I curled my lips into a smirk, my gaze shifting past him to the two police cars speeding toward us.
Then, I looked back at him, my smile laced with taunting defiance.
“In that case, I think I’ll be heading inside to take my exam now.”
In the suffocating heat of June, I sat down in the exam hall, where even air conditioning was a luxury we didn’t have
Sweat seeped into the raw wounds on my arm, but the pain only sharpened my focus, keeping my mind crystal clear.
After finishing the two exams scheduled for the first day, I went to the hospital to have my injuries treated.
Sophie came with me.
She had always been timid and soft–spoken, but this time, not a single tear fell.
“Will it leave a scar?”
I glanced down.
The doctor was using a fine pair of tweezers to carefully extract bits of gravel from my wound, working with practiced precision.
“Maybe, but it doesn’t matter. It’s just a flesh wound–looks worse than it really is.”
I narrowed my eyes slightly, the corner of my lips curving into a lazy smile.
“Besides, he’s the golden boy of the elite circle. If he wanted to start a war, it was only fair he paid a price for it.”
After my wound was treated, I didn’t return to the Lowe house that night.
Instead, I stayed in a small motel near the exam center.
In both my past and present lives, this exam was never a challenge for me.
More than that, I carried with me the complete memories of my past life.
Every piece of knowledge I learned, every research breakthrough I made–everything was etched firmly into my mind, an irreplaceable wealth that no one could take from me.
And no matter how many times Stacy was reborn, trapped in the petty cycles of love and revenge, she would never have what I achieved.
The moment I finished my last exam, I went straight to the hospital.
