Chapter 8
Lying in the hospital bed, I pulled out my phone and, just as expected, my name was trending
Top student nearly misses entrance exam after violent attack
#Nicholas Scott: “I’m from the Scott family,”
#Lucy Lowe is a badass
The top trending post was a video of me, standing outside the exam hall, bloodied but unyielding, facing off against Nicholas.
“My god, she was that badly injured and still took the exam?
“She’s ranked first in the grade, and Nicholas has been bullying her for years. If she had missed the test, wouldn’t that have meant three years of effort wasted?”
“Someone needs to investigate the Scott family–are they seriously untouchable?”
I turned off my phone and looked up at the two people sitting by my bedside.
Sophie was calmly peeling an apple with a small knife, cutting the skin away in smooth, precise circles.
Jenna sat across from me. “Everyone wanted to visit, but they didn’t want to disturb your recovery, so they sent the two of us as representatives.”
“It’s nothing serious. I’ll be discharged tomorrow.”
I shifted slightly, testing the movement in my left shoulder and arm, now secured in a cast.
I smiled and looked at her.
“How was the exam? Think you did well enough to beat me?”
“Who the hell wants to beat you?”
She held my gaze steadily.
“But tell me, how were you so sure those two journalists would actually help you?”
It wasn’t an unusual question coming from her.
Jenna had always been the quietest student in Class Thirteen, but also the sharpest.
That day, when Nicholas chased me all the way to the exam hall, every journalist and parent outside the gates saw it happen.
And yet, barely anyone reported on it.
No one wanted to risk offending the Scott family just to stand up for some bloodied girl who might not even have been able to finish her exam.
But those two young female reporters were different.
