I thought the drama was over. Then, three
months later, Sarah called. Ethan had a new
girlfriend: a college senior named Brittany.
“Girl, get ready for some tea. Remember how
we thought Ethan dumped Chloe because she
didn’t really love him?

“Yeah, that made sense.” I paused, looking at
the file in front of me. “Wait… did he start
seeing Brittany before he dumped Chloe?”
Sarah chuckled. “Bingo! A serial cheater
doesn’t stick to one flower for long.”

“And his type hasn’t changed, has it? Except
for you, he always goes for the same kind of
girl. Brittany’s got the same stuck–up attitude
Chloe had when she started interning at his
company. Acts like she owns the place.”
I sighed, suddenly curious about Chloe. “Did
she ever transfer the apartment back to
Ethan?”
Sarah snorted. “No way! Chloe’s not stupid. She filled the Mercedes with dog and cat blood and left it in front of his building.
Totaled it. And as for her son…well, she’s
‘s
never been the maternal type.”
“Ethan backed off after that. She’s ruthless.”
A hundred–thousand–dollar car, destroyed. It
wasn’t a huge loss for Ethan, but it must have
stung. Serves him right.
At the end of the month, I flew back for the
divorce hearing. Everything went smoothly. To
my surprise, Ethan’s new girlfriend, Brittany,
was there. She was exactly as Sarah
described: the classic “innocent” type, with
eyes that held a disturbing glint.
