I pressed my hands against the shower walls to hold me up as panic made it hard to breathe.
My family had taught me to always stay proud and calm. Those were the rules I had lived by. No matter what happened, I had to hold onto those rules. Nicolas could take everything else, but not my pride.
Simon’s screams rang in my head. I tried to block it out by covering my ears with my hands, but it didn’t work. I couldn’t stop hearing his screams and cry for help. I know I shouldn’t feel bad for him considering the fact that he tried to force himself on me but I’ve never witnessed murder before. My father said brother always kept me sheltered and protected me against the cruel activities of our family.
In this moment I wasn’t strong anymore. I couldn’t forget what I’d just seen. Nicolas smiled while he used his knife on someone, like it didn’t bother him at all. I closed my eyes, but the image stayed in my mind. How could I ever look at him without being scared? He wasn’t like other men. He was worse.
When I was a young girl, my mother always told me that monsters weren’t real, I still didn’t believe her and usually slept in my twin brother’s bed because I was afraid of the dark. Now I knew for a fact that she was wrong. Monsters were real and Nicolas Russo was proof
I let my hands fall slowly, my whole body shaking. Then I noticed something red. I looked down. Red water swirled around my feet. My mind didn’t understand it at first. Then I remembered the shower floor, Nicolas’s knife, the blood.
My feet looked pale against the red water. When I realized what I was standing in. I screamed and tried to get away from the blood and leave the shower but the floor was slippery, I grabbed the wall to keep myself from falling. All I could see when I looked around the room was blood. And in the middle of ir stood Nicolas. He looked calm, holding his knife. Blood covered his chest, arms, and hands. He didn’t care. I kept screaming until 1 was unable to do so any longer. Nicolas put the knife away and walked toward ine. I tried to move, but my feet slipped again. I fell to my knees, my hands hitting the blood. I tried to escape, but my elforts was useless.
He came up to me grabbed me, and pulled me to my feet. His arms were strong but I could still smell the blood. I held onto his shoulders to keep from falling again. I struggled in his hold, but he didn’t let go. “Please,” I whispered. I had no strength left to fight him or keep up the brave front,
He picked me up and carried me out of the room. My mind barely noticed the dead body on the floor as he stepped over it. He brought me into another room and set me down on the cold shower floor.
The water started running but I couldn’t lift my head to look at him. My body shook so hard that I couldn’t stop it. When I finally peeked, I saw him taking off his bloody clothes. My stomach twisted. I turned my face away as he came closer.
Then he picked me up again. Cold water poured down on us. I gasped loudly, the icy splash pulling me out of my panic. His body blocked most of the water, his hand resting on the wall next to me. His dark eyes stared straight into mine.
“It takes a while for the water to warm up,” he said. His voice was steady, calm. That calmness scared me even more. My teeth wouldn’t stop shaking. Even when the water turned warm, I still felt cold
When the water shut off, he wrapped something soft around me and carried me out again. I heard voices, low and sharp. Nicolas carried me out of the cell and down the hallway. My chest felt tight with panic.
“Damn,” a man said. “Get me a blanket, Luca,” Nicolas ordered sharply.
His arms held me tighter as he went up the stairs. I shut my eyes, too scared and shaken to resist. Soon, something soft and warm was wrapped around me, and I felt myself placed on smooth, warm leather.
“You can’t drive through the city without clothes. You’re still covered in blood,” Luca said. “You can drive,” Nicolas said as he sat down next to me.
“Where the fuck are we taking her?” he asked.
“Home,” Nicolas replied. “Damien won’t like this,” Luca replied. “You know how he protetis Kiara.
“I don’t give a fuck,” Nicolas said. “Now drive.”
