Chapter 10 Snitching
Kingsley finally realized that the Jazlyn he once knew—quiet and obedient—was now someone who could hold her head high and look him straight in the eye. Her skin was smoother than Freya’s, though she was far too thin. He had once been drawn to her because her eyes reminded him of Freya’s. But now, as he looked into her sharp gaze, those eyes seemed nothing like Freya’s anymore. Kingsley stared at her for a moment. “Fine. You’ll regret threatening me today.” Jazlyn only gave a soft smile. She only regretted marrying him out of blind love, and now she had no more regrets left. Without a word, Kingsley turned and walked away. Jazlyn had planned to get in his car, but he turned back and said, “I only agreed to shop with you, not to drive you there.” As the car door slammed shut, Jazlyn hailed a taxi. Thankfully, her fever had finally gone down, or she wouldn’t have had the energy to go shopping. Kingsley walked ahead, and Jazlyn followed, watching his back. It was almost laughable. After three years of marriage, she had been so kind to him, yet now, during their divorce discussions, his emotions seemed stronger than all those years combined. She smiled bitterly. When she saw him glance back at her, she walked straight to the counter. “I’ll take this,” she said. “Bring me the priciest item in your store and wrap it up. He’ll pay.” Jazlyn nonchalantly pointed to items on the counter, buying whatever caught her eye without thinking about the price. Soon, Kingsley’s driver was struggling to carry several bags of goods. Kingsley’s expression darkened, his features tightening with frustration as if he were about to explode. But Jazlyn felt a strange sense of relief as if the anger he was showing was helping to release the frustration she’d been holding inside, especially after the miscarriage. “I didn’t know you liked shopping this much,” Kingsley remarked, his expression filled with disdain as veins popped from his forehead. Jazlyn didn’t stop. She waved her hand and picked out even more items from a luxury store. “Well, since we’re about to divorce, I might never have the chance to be this extravagant again. I might as well enjoy it while I can. Do you think so, Mr. Zinn?” “What did you just call me?” “Mr. Zinn. Or should I call you Mr. Ex-husband?” she replied with biting sarcasm. Her tone made him uncomfortable, reminding him of how she used to call him “Honey” so obediently. Kingsley was about to lose his temper when his phone rang. He looked at the screen, his expression stiffening. Jazlyn immediately guessed it was Freya. “Just answer it,” she said with a smirk. “Don’t worry. I won’t say anything to upset Ms. Quinlan.” Kingsley shot her a glare, but he still picked up the call. “What’s going on, Freya?” His voice was completely different from how he spoke to Jazlyn. Jazlyn lowered her head, smiling bitterly and losing interest in the conversation. “Kingsley, where are you? Your family knows I’m pregnant. They came looking for me and wanted me to go to the Zinn Residence. What should I do? I’m scared. I don’t want to go. Will they harm our baby?” Kingsley’s gaze turned icy as he looked at Jazlyn. Did she do it? She just threatened me, and now they’ve found out about Freya! Jazlyn shivered under his cold stare, feeling an unsettling chill. “Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked, confused. Kingsley ended the call and stormed toward her. “Did you tell my family about Freya? Jazlyn, do you want to make things worse for yourself?” Jazlyn was taken aback. She had no idea how the Zinns found out, and the timing couldn’t have been worse.
