Chapter 17 Spouting Nonsense

“Just an ordinary person now, okay? Look, I’m doing fine, aren’t I? The past is in the past. Besides, since you’re already here, it’s perfect timing–I’m moving. Come help me pack.”
Jazlyn had been staying in a hotel these days, still searching for a suitable place to settle down.
Emily finally stopped fussing after hearing her say that.
“You’re right. Out with the old, in with the new. Just wait–I’ll introduce you to someone even better when I return.”
“Exactly. No matter what, I’m really happy you’re back. Come on, let me treat you to a feast.”
Jazlyn smiled and wrapped an arm around Emily’s shoulder.
“Let me treat you instead!”
“No need … “Jazlyn could tell Emily must’ve seen the news about the Xanders‘ bankruptcy. “Sure, my family went bankrupt, and yes, I’m divorced, but I can still afford to buy you dinner.”
Emily looked at Jazlyn’s smiling face and finally nodded. “Of course you can! Divorce is the start of a new life–we have to celebrate with a great meal!”
The two of them headed to Frostwind Garden.
Before Emily moved abroad, this was one of their favorite spots.
Three years apart, and so much had changed.
As they sat down, Emily couldn’t help but sigh. “This place is just as extravagant as before.”
“Yeah, but I wonder if the food still tastes the same.”
The dishes were served quickly.
Jazlyn took a bite.
She wasn’t sure if her time at Zinn Residence had spoiled her, but the food here didn’t seem as good as it used to.
At Zinn Residence, the chefs had all been hired for top dollar.
Looking back, those three years at Zinn Residence weren’t a total waste after all.
While she was lost in thought, a voice suddenly broke the moment.
“Wow, Linda, Julian is so good to you! That bag is a limited edition, right? It must’ve cost a fortune!”
“Linda’s becoming more gorgeous by the day. A thriving career and a great relationship–it’s enviable.”
Turning their heads, Jazlyn and Emily saw three women walk in, each dressed to the nines. Upon closer look, Jazlyn recognized one of them–Linda Gardner, a college classmate.
“Jazlyn?” Linda was decked out in designer brands, her makeup flawless as she stared at Jazlyn with a mix of surprise and disdain. Her expression shifted to smugness as she approached. “Didn’t your family go bankrupt? How can you afford to eat here?”
Jazlyn froze.
Emily slammed her utensils onto the table with a loud clatter.

Linda’s face stiffened, then twisted into anger as the samned back. Emily, when did you get back? Haven’t you heard? Jazlyn’s no longer the Xanders heiress. After graduation she married some old rich guy just for his money, became his second wife, and got dumped after only a few years. The Kanders went bankrupt because they kicked her out and left her to fend for herself. She’s got nothing now–completely broke. So if you’re hoping to gain anything by sticking to her, you’re wasting your time.”
“Linda! Stop spouting nonsense!”
Emily was furious.
Back in college, Linda had followed Jazlyn around like a sycopiian constantly flattering her. Now, with the tables turned, Linda had shown her true colors.
